Overview

The Painter is a skilled tradesman who performs a variety of painting techniques to maintain, preserve and visually enhance buildings, structures, and equipment.


  • Performs various painting assignments to enhance the overall appearance of the City of Dallas facilities, buildings, community areas, and equipment; participates in training and safety meetings, calculates and tracks orders and supplies, performs various other work involved in painting jobs.

  • Replaces and repairs paper, vinyl, plastic or other wall coverings to maintain appearance of the buildings; tapes, beds, and textures sheetrock walls to complete finish of dry wall construction; observes walls and structures, identifies holes and other painting needs, and ensures work is completed.

  • Water blasts and sand blasts walls or swimming pools to remove graffiti.

  • Paints building interiors and exteriors, pumps, valves, swimming pools, parking lots, or tennis courts to
    preserve and restore appearance.

  • Operates various hand brushes, rollers, and power-driven sprayers/rollers to perform necessary paint assignments; drives vehicle to and from job site to transport tools and equipment.

  • Sands, varnishes, and strips gym floors, parking lots, and tennis courts to restore surface.

  • Cleans work area after painting or repairs are completed; maintains paint supplies and materials to ensure adequate levels are available when needed.

  • Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the painting trade.

  • Knowledge of types of paint and finishes, color harmony, and color match.

  • Basic knowledge of mixing paint.

  • Skill in the proper use of hand/power tools and equipment.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Experience

2 years of painting in a construction environment.


Licenses and Certifications

Valid Texas Driver's License


Education

High School Diploma, GED

Other Requirements

  • Two (2) years' experience involving brush or spray painting.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to plan work, order material, apply vinyl wall coverings, plaster, spray acoustic textures, finish dry wall construction and mix/match colors and tints.
  • Some positions may require a valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.

Working Conditions and Hazards

  • Subject to inclement weather
