Role Description
The Orthopedic Technician/Medical Assistant is responsible for managing the casting process and the supplies/ordering for the cast room. This position will also assist the Surgeon during operative procedures. The Orthopedic Technician serves the patient, the physician, the X-Ray Technician and other staff members. In the capacity of a Medical Assistant this position works to assist OMG providers in providing health care at OMG clinic locations. This position serves the patient and the provider by gathering and maintaining the necessary medical information in a cheerful, friendly, personable manner; providing quality patient care and helping to establish rapport between the physician and patient.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepares patients for examination and treatment and documents chief complaints
- Obtains patient histories and vital signs and records accurately in the Electronic Medical Record
- Assists with patient exams, procedures and collection of specimens as assigned
- Provide quality orthopedic care in the casting room for patients requiring immobilization including: applying, removing and assessing need for change of all types of orthopedic immobilization devices; collaborating with orthopedic surgeons/staff in reviewing patient x-rays and in developing procedures for setting up aseptic fields, etc.
- Coordinate cast room procedures and training
- Educate patients/families regarding application/wearing of orthopedic devices and serve as a resource for patients via telephone
- Provide MA Float coverage to 600CCR as directed
- Inventory management to include: processing orders, receiving and storing supplies/medications; clean/stock exam and procedure rooms; assist in the cleaning and sterilization of instruments
- Assist in positioning, prepping and draping the surgical field as needed under the direct supervision of physician. Participate in maintaining sterile field and technique during the surgical procedure while holding retractors in position set by the physician. Assist physician in wound closure under supervision. Apply dressings or splints in the sterile environment of the operating room. Anticipate the needs of the physician during routine surgical procedures done in clinic
- Retrieves laboratory and radiology test results and instructs patients regarding medications and treatment per physician's instructions
- Maintain inventory supplies for 600CCR building utilizing Lean methodology including ordering, reconciliation, and organizing
- Maintains provider and staff scheduling tools as directed by leadership to include GE Templating, Qgenda reconciliation, and staff schedule
- Understands and interprets current immunization schedule. Administers injections safely
- Responds to incoming phone calls and refers if necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical Assistant certification from the AAMA, NCCT, NHA or RMA, or the ability to obtain certification within 60 days of hire date
- Certification by National Association of Orthopedic Technologists or Registration by The American Society of Orthopedic Professionals
- Current healthcare provider level CPR/BLS certification or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire date
- 2 years of relevant experience
