The Florida Channel, a WFSU-TV operation located in the Florida Capitol building in Tallahassee, is seeking a news intern for the Spring 2023 semester. Our paid internship program gives students an opportunity to enhance basic hands-on newsroom experience learned on campus and work closely with our talented, respected and award-winning team of journalists. We are looking for a highly motivated, ambitious student or recent graduate who is seeking to gain valuable exposure and experience in a unique, fast-paced, professional state government television news environment.

Responsibilities
The news intern will be exposed to various aspects of news gathering and production, develop skills for researching and fact checking news stories, log video and assist with planning, producing and executing daily half hour newscasts during Session.
Interns may have the opportunity to accompany producers, reporters and videographers in the field at news conferences, committee hearings and other assignments. Interns may eventually be assigned to cover news events independently and to write/produce news elements. The specific length of the internship, minimum hours required to work to receive credits, eligibility, and college credits awarded for successful completion of the program must be verified with the student's faculty advisor.
Qualifications
Degree-seeking Junior or Senior or recent college graduate with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
A professional demeanor and work ethic.
Strong research, writing and organizational skills.
Ability to work throughout the 2024 Legislative Session (January - March).
Must be able to adapt to and display personal and professional characteristics consistent with the Capitol environment.
Preferred Qualifications
A Journalism, Communication Arts or Political Science major.

Based on the duties, this position may require completion of a criminal history background check .
