Your Specific Responsibilities:

Obtains patients' medical history, measures height and weight, takes blood pressures manually and electronically, taking temperatures, pulse and respirations; performs screenings/counseling for HIV; tests visual and auditory acuity using eye charts and audiometer and records electronically prior to examination by provider. Performs timely and accurate client documentation and coding of services both electronically and manually according to policies and procedures. Adheres to DOH policies for security of client data and security systems.  

Prepares examination and treatment rooms prior to providers examinations, maintaining all necessary equipment and supplies for ready use.  Assists provider/nurse during examinations/visits as needed.

Supports clerical functions by scheduling client appointments, interviewing and screening patients for eligibility determination, and billing services according to policy and procedure. Appropriate client demographic and financial information is obtained and entered into the Health Management System.

Runs daily pending and lab error report in Health Management System (HMS).   Identifies any outstanding pending and outstanding lab errors, makes the required corrections to resolve immediately. 

Performs fingerstick hemoglobin and blood sugar screenings; performs venipuncture for blood tests; collects and tests urine specimens for a variety of standard laboratory testing and analysis.  Inputs client data into HMS lab module and prepares lab specimens properly to send to appropriate laboratory for testing..  Operates routine laboratory equipment.

Cleans and sterilizes equipment and supplies using germicides, sterilizer and autoclave.  Prepares Biohazard waste products for pickup and other containers appropriate to waste disposal.

Inventories and orders medical supplies and materials. Removes all expired supplies from room/inventory per policy.  All clinician/medical equipment is inspected, cleaned, and kept in working condition.  Always keeps clinical rooms/area well stocked and clean.

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, customer service skills, communicate verbally in a courteous and effective manner
  • Ability to follow specific written and oral instruction
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology/techniques
  • Ability to perform, record vital signs and document in patient record
  • Ability to interview patients and obtain a complete medical history
  • Ability to prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients and assist physician during exams.
  • Ability to collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by physician and sent to labs
  • Ability to inventory, maintain, and order supplies for clinic.
  • Knowledge of basic computer software.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum -

  • Able to travel between different clinical sites
  • Verifiable work experience 

Preferred - 

  • Certified in CPR and First Aid
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or comparable certification
  • Experience working with client medical or health records in a healthcare setting
  • Work experience conducting health screenings to include interviewing clients, measuring vital signs, weight and height, and recording information
  • Work experience updating and recording results in a medical or health records chart i.e. screenings, immunizations etc.
