Job Purpose
Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, ensures proper running and cleaning of production equipment in the safe manufacture of powder coatings at the Reading/Warsaw sites. Operators may be placed in Grinding, Weighup, or Extrusion production areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Takes ownership of production assets and ensures they are operated safely and per established procedures, guidelines and industry good practice
- Performs daily production, preventative maintenance, process data collection and administration tasks as per procedures and control systems
- Reports safety, quality or other issues related to products or production processes to Team Leader or Shift Supervisor.
- Ensures all production targets are met whilst ensuring the appropriate quality standards are maintained
- Attends and contributes to meetings
- Contributes in the investigation of HSE or quality issues
- Participates in Continuous Improvement activities & programs for HSE, Quality, ALPS or other as may be assigned
- Participate in the Safety Journey. Adhere to the Golden Principle which is Simply to intervene to stop work if conditions or behaviour are unsafe
- Promotes health, safety and environmental regulations by ensuring that standards, policies, and procedures are adhered to in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local requirements
- Performs other duties as required for the success of Akzo Nobel
WEIGH UP OPERATORS:
1. Wash totes
2. Charge product
3. Weigh up critical raws
4. Sample room (pre-mix)
1. Extrude/grind/sieve sample and obtain QC analysis for testing.
5. Stage raw materials for batches per batch tickets
6. Record data
7. Transport totes to blender/blend/sample
EXTRUDER OPERATORS:
1. Must possess basic mechanical aptitude
2. Ability to determine screw profile for product as determined on batch ticket or run history by interacting with extruder operator on previous shift.
3. Ability to determine cleanliness of machine
4. Wash and clean totes
5. Transport totes of QC approved material to upper level mezzanine
6. Extrude product - adjust feed rate to allow maximum capacity per product specification
7. Transport tote to Post-Add station if necessary
8. Transport extruded product to ICM staging area
ICM OPERATORS:
1. Grind totes in sequence to minimize contamination at leadperson's request
2. Must determine cleanliness of machine prior to running product by interacting with previous shift ICM operator
3. Transport tote of approved flake, run a contamination, sieve check and pull sample for QC
4. Make adjustments as necessary, re-clean machine if contaminated
5. Perform particle size analysis - adjust if necessary
6. Pull samples as required for QC
7. Reading Operators manually pack off mills
Level of Autonomy
Able to run assigned equipment per work order instructions with ability to make corrections to running conditions to bring product into specifications.

- Ability to read and comprehend instructions
- Ability to be trained to safely operate a forklift - following all operating instructions
- Manuever large vessels and totes using hand truck
- Ability to measure and weigh accurately
- Must have effective interpersonal skills
- Committed to personal and site safety
- Ability to climb stairs wearing steel toed footwear
- Ability to don hardhat, respirator, and other PPE required
- Ability to stand, walk for entire shift
