JOB SUMMARY: MCSG Technologies is seeking an Operations Planner (SDA/Orbital Analyst) for the SPACE FLAG (SF)/Advanced Training team at Schriever SFB, CO. SF is a mission planning exercise designed to prepare tactical-level space operators to execute operations in a realistic contested, degraded, and operationally limited (CDO) environment against a thinking and determined adversary. This United States Space Force (USSF) sponsored exercise focuses exclusively on the space domain, rather than providing space services to others. The SDA/OA works with the internal SF team and outside stakeholders to provide SDA subject matter expertise to SF Exercises.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Serves as the 392d Combat Training Squadron (CTS) SDA SME in support of SF exercises and AT events
  • Assists space and ground-based SDA unit POCs with drafting advanced training objectives (TOs) and developing and planning unit involvement in SF exercises
  • Develops scenarios to meet rendezvous/proximity operations (RPO) and orbital engagement-type TOs
  • Coordinates SSA support and manning requirements with SF exercise planners
  • Interacts with other contractors to identify synergies between SF exercise objectives and AT lesson plans and academics
  • Interacts with SDA units on a regular basis (e.g., RSP AT Measures (RAMs) development and execution, Crew Readiness Verification (CRV) events, and SF exercises) to identify opportunities where 392 CTS can integrate modeling and simulation (M&S) capabilities into AT events
  • Identifies gaps and shortfalls in M&S tools needed to provide timely, realistic SF exercise capabilities
  • Provides assistance to planning conferences, coordination meetings, training events, etc.
  • Participates as part of the Exercise Control Group (ECG) and White Cell, as required
  • Captures, analyzes, and reports observations and lessons learned identified during the design, planning, and execution of SF exercises and AT events
  • Supports hot wash debriefs and After Action Report development after each SF exercise or AT event
  • Prepares event-related documents (i.e., trip reports, exercise planning/execution products, after-action reports lessons learned meeting minutes) within established time frames
  • Provides accurate and timely responses to 392 CTS tasks and coordinates responses in accordance with command policies and procedures
  • Carries out any other tasks that may be required in order to ensure 392 CTS mission success for SF exercise and AT events

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current or previous experience (within the last five years) working in the National Space Defense Center (NSDC), 1st Space Operations Squadron (1 SOPS), 18 Space Defense Squadron (18 SPDS) or equivalent unit
  • Understanding of the Space Surveillance Network (SSN) tasking procedures, satellite catalog maintenance, and the relationships between Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC), interagency and coalition SSA partners
  • Experience using Systems Tool Kit (STK), Integrated Space Situational Awareness (ISSA), or other similar tools to plan analysis of orbital maneuvers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook)
  • Travels with the SF team in support of exercises (limited requirement, CONUS travel)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Level III certified in STK
  • Previously certified Orbital Analyst
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Space Operations, Engineering, Operational Research, Strategic Studies, or a space-related field
  • Graduate of Space 300 and the 319 CTS Advanced Orbital Mechanics and SSA Advanced courses
  • Previous experience designing, planning, preparing, executing, and/or evaluating United States Air Force (USAF) space capabilities in Service, Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) or Combatant Command (CCMD) exercises
  • Headquarters staff experience
  • Solid understanding of Service and Joint space mission areas, BMC2 constructs, and knowledge of current space policy and doctrine
  • Excellent writing and communication skills with the ability to focus on building customer relationships
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to meet strict deadlines, prioritize work, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously without supervision

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: 10 years of operational space experience

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Top Secret/SCI
