The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for performing duties independently following established and standardized procedures and methods referring questionable situations to physician. The NP provides primary health care through assessment, diagnosis, clinical judgment and management to restore, maintain and improve the health status of patients
Essential Functions:
- The focus of the APN is to provide care that promotes health and well-being, prevents, and manages disease, and promotes rehabilitation. The APN provides and coordinates care for patients and their families throughout the acute care continuum facilitating the admission/discharge process and providing continuity of care through daily clinical rounds. The APN provides educational opportunities for associates, influences change and advancement in clinical practice.
- GYN/ONC NPs provide and coordinate quality cancer care for women from diverse populations and settings.
- Will participate in developing and utilizing evidence-based practice specific guidelines to improve outcomes for GYN cancer patients.
- Will utilize NCCN and other nationally recognized guidelines as well as research-based literature.
- Will develop mutually agreed upon protocols and practice specific guidelines for the delivery of services.
- GYN/ONC NP is encouraged to take the Oncology Nursing Society's Advanced practice certification exam for AOCNP
- Biopsies (vulvar, vaginal, cervical, ECC, EMB, etc)
- Colposcopies- will provide colposcopy course
- Access of porta caths
- Participation in Tumor Board
- Discuss pathology results, treatment planning based on tumor board recommendations and/or NCCN guidelines with patients and family
- Survivorship visits
- Preoperative visits
- Performs routine surveillance visits - unless the patient needs to see physician for some reason.
- Follow up and surveillance visits for patients with VIN, CIN, VAIN per ASCCP guidelines
- Counsel patients about genetic testing.
- Manages chemotherapy dose and side effects with the supervision of Physician.
- Prescribes chemotherapy treatment plans ordered by the Physician or recommended at tumor board.
- Attend all tumor boards.
- Order imaging scans, make referrals, etc
- Call patients to discuss results of testing.
- Participates in clinical trials and attends NRG and SGO conferences.
- Hospital rounds. Performs hospital consults.
- RFNA certification will be provided and assist the APN will be expected to assist in the operating room.
Job Requirements:
- MSN, CRNP. Minimum 3 years of current experience in nursing with demonstrated clinical expertise and assessment skills. Current RN licensure in the State of New Jersey. National certification by AANP, ANCC or NCC. Current CPR and ACLS.
Able to work effectively and motivate others. BLS Certification Required. Writes prescriptions. Demonstrates an interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving.
