Required Qualifications
- Completion of Cardiovascular Tech program. Cardiovascular Tech program or equivalent education/ training.
- 5 Years Experience in all cardiology-related procedures.
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association
- ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association
- Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International
Essential Functions
- EKG data management
Routine adult/pediatric EKGs (knowledge of basic arrhythmias).
Signal average EKGs.
Routine pacemaker checks.
Retrieve EKGs from Muse system.
Prepare EKGs for physician reading.
Ensure proper ICD-9 coding.
EKG editing Completes/credits information systems billing.
Equipment maintenance. - Education
Identifies and trends learning needs of multi-disciplinary EKG staff and works with director and managers to assure needs are met.
Assures that the treadmill/EKG standards of care are implemented, evaluated and updated in collaboration with director and managers.
Assures delivery of quality staff education and training that meets all internal, accreditation and regulatory standards.
Reviews, revises, develops and maintains safety and educational policies and procedures related to and in conjunction with management department activities and work environments.
Reviews current operations and assesses appropriateness of and compliance with safety and educational policies. Works proactively with Bio-med, Risk Management and others to ensure ongoing compliance. - Holter monitors
Correctly interprets and overrides erroneous computer interpretation of Holter Monitor tracings.
Differentiates between arrhythmias versus artifact while visualizing electrocardiogram tracings.
Demonstrates knowledge of patient care policies and procedures.
Recognizes potential life threatening arrhythmias and immediately reports and/or reviews data with cardiologist to assure that appropriate intervention occurs without delay. - Leadership
Acts as a change agent supporting unit, level of care and educational and organizational goals
Maintains a positive and productive relationship with the medical staff, peers, patients, families and management/administration.
Identifies unit or organizational problems; develops and/or contributes to a plan to resolve problems.
Implements and/or assists with plans to achieve resolution relevant to specialist role.
Demonstrates effective team building.
Leads and/or participates on task forces.
Assumes management responsibilities in manager's absence. - Quality
Monitors appropriate CPT codes for all cardiology-related procedures.
Completes all daily billing procedures and audits.
Identifies errors and corrects appropriately.
Completes all department statistics and prepares reports as required. - Treadmills
Bruce, and Mod-Bruce protocols.
Stress echos.
Nuclear stress tests.
Dobutamine stress (must have complete knowledge of treadmill programming and extensive knowledge of arrhythmias and vital sign significance).
Holter monitor placement and readings.
Equipment maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of cardiac procedures.
- Effective interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
- Computer skills to include: IDXrad, WordPerfect, Muse, Mars and Excel.
- Ability to spend 100% of time standing, walking, sitting, bending and reaching.
- Ability to use computer keyboard: manual dexterity.
