Neurodiagnostic Tech - Per Diem - DayReq #:0000095647Category:EKG/EEG TechnicianStatus:Per DiemShift:DayFacility:RWJ SomersetDepartment:EEGLocation:RWJUH Somerset, 110 Rehill Ave, Somerville, NJ 08876Neurodiagnostic TechTo perform EEG tests when requested by a physician. As part of the testing process, an EEG tech will gather a patient's medical history, explain testing procedures, and prepare the patient for the procedure. During testing, the EEG technician monitors the patient's status and notes any abnormalities.

After testing is complete, they report their findings to the patient's doctor for further analysis.Education:High School Diploma or equivalentCompletion of a certified END programBoard Eligible Neuro Diagnostic TechnicianExperience:Internship completed in a certified END programEssential Clinical Functions For EEG:Precisely places electrodes in measured positions of International 10 20 System and documents/diagrams any deviation from standard. Applies electrodes securely, using appropriate adhesive for situation. Determines the need for additional EEG or physiological monitors and applies accurately.Verifies acceptable electrode impedances based on facility policy and procedures.Calibrates, evaluates, and, if necessary, adjusts the instruments to proper technical standards in order to obtain top-quality recordings.Utilizes appropriate montages based on patient s age, medical condition, complaints, expected/recognized abnormalities, and facility policy and procedures.Performs appropriate activation techniques based on patient s age, medical condition and complaints.Monitors patient throughout procedure utilizing effective methods to improve patient cooperation/relaxation.Monitors recording for artifact and takes appropriate action to identify and eliminate/monitor artifacts.Obtains technically acceptable recording of adequate duration according to facility policy and procedures, including video component if required.Understands technical criteria for performing special EEG procedures (electrocerebral inactivity, neonatal, pediatric, ICU).Demonstrates good working knowledge of functional neuroanatomy and physiology, neurological disorders, and the International Classification of SeizuresRemoves all adhesive/conductive material from the patient.

Appropriately cleans, disinfects, or discards electrodes /sensors following the procedure.Essential Clinical Functions For LTM: (includes all above)Determines the need for additional EEG or physiological monitors and applies these accurately. Assures stability of recording electrodes for long-term recording by wrapping head, and performs daily maintenance of leads and bandages.Utilizes appropriate montages based on patient s age, type of seizure, expected/ recognized abnormalities, and facility policy and procedures. For invasive studies, accurately interfaces implanted depth, strip or grid electrodes to recording system, and creates custom montages for complex electrode arraysPerforms recordings during special procedures, such as direct cortical stimulation, evoked potential mapping, sodium amytal (Wada) testing, sodium pentothal studies, PET and SPECT scans both ictal and interictal.Essential Function of Transcranial Dopplers:Understands TCD equipment and performs TCD's accurately and in a timely manner.Essential Clinical Functions For EP:Precisely places recording and stimulating electrodes in measured positions of International 10 20 System or Queens Square Systems, or using anatomical landmarks.

Applies electrodes securely, using appropriate adhesive for situation, and accurately interfaces to recording device.Understands basic principles of evoked potential instrumentation, including averaging, analog-digital conversion, analysis time, and sampling rates, and selects appropriate stimulation parameters for each modalityDemonstrates knowledge of basic anatomy/physiology pertinent to evoked potential studies as well as disease states encountered in practice.Obtains relevant history (including hearing thresholds/audiogram, visual acuity/visual field testing, nerve conduction studies, etc.) and documents for interpreter.Marks obligate peaks and documents pertinent amplitudes and latencies.Chooses and documents appropriate stimulus/recording parameters for modality (click intensity, polarity and masking, check size and visual angle, intensity and duration of electrical stimulus). Modifies stimulation as necessary during procedure.Prepares hard copy of waveforms and stores to electronic media per laboratory policy.Record Review and Documentation:Recognizes normal, normal variant and abnormal patterns for all age ranges.Notates patterns associated with wakefulness, sleep, and varied levels of consciousness.Documents unusual or inappropriate behavior suggestive of seizure or pseudo-seizure, and tests patient for responsiveness.Reports critical test results to the interpreting physician and supervisor and documents this communication according to facility policy and procedure.Completes report and other required documentation according to facility policy and procedures.
