Reporting directly to the Director of Information Technology, responsibilities include but are not limited to; managing and maintaining the City IT network, ensuring adequate technology support by identifying network requirements, monitoring network performance, and maintaining all networking equipment.

- Installs, configures, and administers network devices
- Implements and maintains network monitoring tools and protocols
- Designs, creates, and maintains network configurations as needed
- Ensures high-speed, resilient, and redundant network connections are available for servers, buildings, endpoints, and the wide-area network
- Implements and manages disaster recovery plans and procedures, as well as preventative maintenance
- Maintains Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and related servers to support operations, as well as manages IP address assignments
- Connects 3rd party and hosted services to City infrastructure while maintaining security and reliability
- Provides escalated technical consulting and support services related to connectivity, network, and voice service issues
- Visits remote sites to physically inspect network equipment and power supply
- Perform annual inventory audits of endpoint hardware and software in a summary format for management
- Responsible for producing operating procedures, policies, and guidelines for best practices
- Works with vendors to obtain quotes and performs cost/benefit analysis in order to justify procurement of additional or new hardware or software
- Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential
Marginal Duties
Other duties as assigned, including after-hours assigned work and on call responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge: Requires knowledge of network and security hardware/software including network architecture design; data processing concepts and procedures; networking systems analysis and design; theory and methods of computer networking that operate in local and wide area networks including wireless technology concepts.
Skills: Requires effective written and verbal communication with advanced organization. This position requires advance troubleshooting skills in the areas of: OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) Reference model; IP (Internet Protocol) Addressing; Subnets (Includes variable subnet masks) and Class Addressing; Routing Protocols; Spanning Tree; VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) configuration; Cisco IOS (Internetwork Operating System); Packet level - Wire Shark; and Application Protocols and Firewall configuration.
Experience: Requires three (3) years of experience in networking, including design analysis of network control and monitoring
Licenses and Certification Requirements
Required:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification
- Valid Texas driver's license
Preferred:
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification
Working Conditions:
- Work is generally performed in an office environment.
- May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry and vision to monitor.
- May be subject to exposure to extended periods of standing or sitting when presenting safety information, negotiating contracts or agreements.
- May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling and lifting such as when retrieving files, records and reports and setting up audio visual equipment. May be required to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally and push and/or pull up to 30 pounds occasionally
