Essential Functions

The Multicultural Outreach Coordinator reports to the Director of Multicultural Affairs. Duties will include serving as the primary retention professional for underrepresented students. This role will assist students with academic planning and career coaching while also providing personal, social, and professional support for incoming and current students at the University. Additional duties will include coordinating with the Office of Undergraduate Admission's diversity recruitment and outreach initiatives for a variety of student populations.

The position is responsible for planning and implementing a recruitment and outreach strategic plan aligned with the University's goals as it pertains to Latinx students. This position will represent the University at high schools, community colleges, college fairs, community events, and other off campus recruitment events; including campus events like Be A Mav Day, Admitted Student Day, and others. This position will advise on the development and implementation of marketing and communication strategies designed to attract and enroll students, support currently enrolled students through retention-related activities, and serves as a point of contact for bilingual students.

Work Schedule
Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM, occasional nights and weekends

Additional Duties

Plan events to bring both prospective students and the community to campus. This includes planning and facilitating the annual Hispanic Heritage Month events and Latino lead events. Represents UNO at recruitment activities at designated high schools, community-based organizations, college nights, and other events. Assist with cultural and academic support events. Represent UNO at student-related events in the community and across the state.
Primary contact and coordinator of student support services for underrepresented students from diverse backgrounds. Meets with students to discuss admissions eligibility issues, provide pre-admission counseling to prospective students, and service to current students on a continuous basis in person, on the phone, and electronically.
Designs, coordinates, and implements retention programming for underrepresented students from first-year to graduate students. Serve as a student advocate for the enhancement of student learning, college awareness of diverse cultures, and student development.
Ability to interact effectively to the members of our campus community and the public. Prioritize work operations to meet department and campus needs. Assist the director and team in the Office of Multicultural Affairs to develop new programs and initiatives that address and support diversity, including collaborating with other departments on campus.
Determines the effectiveness of processes, programs, recruitment, and services through comprehensive data-driven measurement evaluation. Track data related to institutional retention/graduation rates for targeted students and prepare related reports to submit to the Director of Multicultural Affairs and others within the Division of Student Life and Wellness. Conduct a wide range of assessment measures to track undergraduate student retention efforts which could include campus surveys and student focus groups.

Required Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience: Minimum of 1-year experience in a higher educational setting. Bilingual in Spanish/English
Will consider a combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Experience:
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in public speaking.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
Will have limited travel and occasional evening and weekend work assignments.
