Position Summary
Mortgage Loan Originator originates FHA/VA/USDA and conventional mortgages. Works with customers to understand their lending needs and explains loan options. Accepts and underwrites loan applications generated by the officer as well as those from the branches and bank website. Focuses on expanding relationships with current customers within our communities as well as the development of new loan opportunities by nurturing relationships with Branch Managers, staff, and referral sources.
Essential Functions
- Originate FHA/VA/USDA, conventional mortgages, home equity, and construction loans
- Maintain loan portfolio, while seeking and identifying cross-selling opportunities
- Works with Branch Managers and staff on accepting applications and identifying referral opportunities
- Develops and nurtures core referral sources through continuous business development efforts within our local markets
- Underwriting of loan applications
Travel/Coverage Area
- The Mortgage Loan Originator position will require some travel to make sales calls on referral sources as well as attending mortgage loan closings off-site. The position will also require the originator to operate out of the Ada and/or Cascades Offices and will cover the territories surrounding our current branches in the greater Grand Rapids area. The position will require travel to the main office in Lake Odessa on a periodic basis to attend meetings and work with the support staff if necessary.
Other Functions
- Other duties assigned from time to time by the CLO.
- Adhere and comply with all bank policies.
- Familiar with and abides by all bank regulations including but not limited to BSA and OFAC.
Working Conditions of the Job
- Stationed at desk 25% of working time.
- No particular hazards.
- No unusual or physical exertion required.

- Ability to understand and analyze borrower's financial information (ie...tax returns, balance sheets)

- Knowledge of the current mortgage industry (including mortgage regulations and laws)

Education & Work Experience
- 2 or more years of mortgage lending experience
- High School Diploma/GED required; Bachelor's Degree or some advanced education preferred
- Established referral sources and customer base in Grand Rapids/West Michigan market preferred
