Chatham University is now welcoming applications for a Modern Languages Coordinator.The Coordinator ensures that Chatham consistently offers four semesters of high-quality instruction in six languages (Arabic, Chinese, French German, Japanese, Spanish) by finding and vetting between 7 and 10 skilled and experienced adjunct instructors each semester.Chatham University strives to promote a campus environment that understands and embraces multiculturalism while increasing individuals' intercultural competence. Responsibilities

Adjunct faculty searches: identify prospective faculty, interview, and communicate with candidates. Recommend adjunct instructors to the Humanities Department Chair, who will submit the appropriate requests for hiring. Coordinate with the Humanities Department Chair on the scheduling of language courses for each academic year. Monitor adjunct syllabi and assist with syllabi development, when needed. Maintain language courses (including alignment of course descriptions, development and administration of language placement guidelines and forms). Administer and coordinate language proficiency testing for students. Collaborate with the Office of International Affairs on enrichment program for students including cultural events on campus such as International Karaoke Night, Language Tables, French Club, International Dessert Night, and Holidays-Around-The-World Dinner for language students and international students. Communicate with Office of International Affairs, students, and Chair to evaluate study abroad courses and programs when identifying equivalents for Chatham language courses. Represent Modern Languages at university events as needed. Attend Humanities Department Meetings and relevant workshops. Offer regular updates about language program activities to the Humanities Department Chair.

Time CommitmentThe responsibilities vary from month to month, i.e. the distribution of weekly hours spent on the administration of the program depends on the rhythm of the academic year. On average, the commitment is about 4 hours per week for 9 months of the year.
