Job description

Do you have at least 5 years of experience in mine engineering? The Doe Run Company is seeking a Mine Planner III to produce and monitor the implementation of daily, weekly, monthly, annual and Life of Mine plans. The Planner will work in conjunction with geology, mine production, and junior level mine planners to set optimal production goals with a focus on long-term planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Review needs of operations to support life of mine plans; identify opportunities for improvements and provide insight and recommendations to production and geology regarding plans and implement solutions.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior planners for all life of mine projects and responsibilities including cut-off calculation, mine planning software, and reporting.
  • Lead monthly Evergreen meetings, identifying critical issues, providing expertise, and communicating consequences of deviations from the plans; develop solutions to meet target goals.
  • Review economic feasibility and perform cut-off calculations; prepare and write AFEs for approval and provide solutions and implement those solutions with production staff.
  • Provide expertise in use of mine planning and production software looking for opportunities for optimization and working with IT to implement.
  • Make mine planning presentations to all levels of management.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education & Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in mine engineering.
  • Prior experience working underground.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
  • Valid, current driver's license.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite & AutoCAD.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand VBA and LISP programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of 3D planning & simulation software preferred.
  • Knowledge of databases & database management preferred.


Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to work underground and near moving mechanical parts.
  • General office conditions.
  • May be exposed to moderate noise levels.
  • Required to wear PPE when underground.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time, talk and hear.
  • Occasionally required to use repetitive motion and reach with hands/arms.
  • Requires clarity of vision and three-dimensional vision.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
