Summary
This position supports Oncor System Operations in their continuous effort to improve safety, increase reliability and provide better service to the 10 million customers in the Oncor service territory. The candidate will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the database, displays, and applications of the Transmission Management System (TMS), which is the real-time control system used by the Transmission and Distribution control centers to operate electric grid. The position also manages the Data Analytics group for Oncor operational business units such as TGO, DOCs and Field Operations.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned. Directly or through others, the incumbent:
- Manage, train, and develop a productive technical staff responsible for the definition of all aspects of the TMS SCADA database and various application databases for operation tools
- Build strong working relationships with groups dependent on the TMS system, such as Grid Operations, Distribution Operations and Field Technicians to fully understand the needs of the user
- Manage, define and implement innovative processes to improve model and database changes while ensuring TMS and RTU help requests are completed accurately and timely
- Identify and manage the implementation of system improvements and process improvements identified by people internal and external to the TMS group
- Manage and coordinate activities that support upgrade/replacement projects for the TMS
- Work with the TMS group and other stakeholders to develop and maintain performance metrics
- Maintain the ICCP, Inter Control Center Protocol, data sent to ERCOT and Oncor's Outage Management System
- Develop and manage the talent to maintain Transmission Network Analysis tool that enables contingency analysis
- Build and maintain a web portal to use for reporting, organizing and sharing analytic results
- Build and maintain a process to gather and vet new data and report requests
- Develop the talent and resources to utilize advanced analytic tools to create useful and efficient reports
- Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements
Education, Experience, & Skills
Education:
- High School, GED, or equivalent is required
- 4 year Engineering degree, 4 year Computer Science Degree, or equivalent
Experience:
- Experience with SCADA/TMS/EMS used for transmission and/or distribution control center operation
- Database structure and management experience
- Experience with analytics techniques and tools
Skill:
- Knowledge of TMS editors, utilities, and tools used to define and troubleshoot the database, displays, and reports
- Advanced knowledge of SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) processing, including the use of real-time data servers, RTUs, and transducers
- Understanding of power system model definitions
- Knowledge of statistical analytics theory and models
- Understanding of data visualization tools
- Proficient level use of standard PC desktop applications
- Knowledge of TMS LAN/WAN configuration preferred
- Must be able to acquire and maintain an Oncor CIP Certification
