The Medical School Admissions Manager will provide centralized management and analysis for the Admissions unit, within the School of Medicine. This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing and managing the entire admissions process for the Medical School. In partnership with works very closely with the Associate Dean for Admissions, Assistant Dean for Admissions, and the Associate Director of Enrollment. this role involves strategic planning, team management, collaboration with various stakeholders, and ensuring the selection of qualified candidates who align with the institution's mission and values. Additionally, duties will include:

  • Design, implement, and oversee the entire application review process, ensuring fairness, transparency, and adherence to established policies.
  • Author and review policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to legal requirements and accreditation standards.
  • Plan and execute (with team members) recruitment events, informational sessions, and interviews to attract qualified applicants.
  • Develop and implement a personalized visit program for applicants, working in partnership with clinical department staff and faculty to create an experience for prospective Medical School matriculants.
  • Utilize data analytics to assess the effectiveness of the admissions process and make data-driven improvements.
  • Attend conventions, meetings and conferences as necessary to maintain knowledge of existing and new admissions policies, practices and procedures. Represent UC Davis School of Medicine at regional and national meetings. Serve as a spokesperson and represents the School of Medicine at National and Statewide meetings to recruit students, residents, and faculty.
  • Collaborate with academic departments, faculty, and administrators to ensure alignment between the admissions process and the Medical School's educational mission.
  • Work closely with diversity and inclusion initiatives to promote a diverse and inclusive student body, including pre-medical and post-matriculation pathway efforts focused on the healthcare workforce needs of California.
  • Lead and manage a team of two admissions professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., education, healthcare administration, or related discipline).
  • Three years progressive admissions counseling or academic advising experience with a wide range of students in schools, colleges or universities.
  • Supervisory experience to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance.
  • Experience developing and implementing programs for student outreach, recruitment, and admissions in an education setting. Demonstrated skills to manage complex programs and activities.
  • Experience in the use of but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite, Internet and other web-based tools.
  • Skills to manage complex processes and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge in the field(s) of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice and belonging, particularly, in relation to groups in an academic health center environment (faculty, residents, medical students, and pre-medical students) as well as local diverse communities.
  • Interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals at all levels within the organization to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems, and to foster and promote the goals of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., education, health care administration, or related discipline).
  • Several years of experience in Medical School or higher education admissions, preferably in a leadership role.
  • Experience and skills interpreting policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Strong knowledge of medical education, accreditation standards, and health care trends.
  • Assessment skills to learn complex School of Medicine and Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) admission practices, processes, and procedures.

Department Description
The mission of the Office of Medical Education (OME) is to provide excellent support for School of Medicine learning programs through the delivery of centralized expertise, services and instructional resources for faculty and trainees (medical students, residents, and fellows). OME is an interdisciplinary team which provides a variety of services directly to faculty and trainees, including: onboarding, instructional materials, financial aid, counseling, tutoring and support for special programs. OME staff offers support for various School of Medicine and Health System committees, including the Promotions Board, the Committee on Educational Policy, the Admissions Committee, and the Learning Climate Committee. Finally, OME sponsors a number of special programs in support of the academic mission and is able to assist with the presentation of those sponsored by other administrative and academic groups.
Position Information
  • Salary or Pay Range: $2,770.11 - $5,022.99
  • Salary Frequency: Biweekly
