This Opportunity:
The primary purpose of the Medical Director and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at the Youth Crisis Center is to provide clinical care and oversight of the Facility Based Crisis services. The Psychiatrist will review and recommend admissions to the facility and complete required evaluations within 24 hours of admission. The Medical Director will provide onsite consultation to and supervision of staff, complete evaluations and diagnostic assessments and prescribe medications for children and adolescents with a focus on short-term therapeutic interventions designed to prevent hospitalization by de-escalating and stabilizing acute responses to the crisis.

What You'll Do:

• Assess children and adolescents for mental health disorders and make appropriate DSM diagnosis. Ensure that services are delivered in a medically appropriate manner and care provided is in compliance with services definitions for the Facility Based Crisis, Clinical Coverage Policy 8A-2, and best practices.
• Provides clinical oversite to the facility-based crisis. In addition, the psychiatrist provider onsite consultation and clinical supervision of staff.
• Review past treatments, evaluations, and other relevant information in order to make clinical decisions for admissions, continued stay, and discharges, as well as develop an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan, behavior management support and intervention and detoxification protocols as appropriate. Conducts a psychiatric assessment of the individual supported within 24 hours of admission.
• Prescribe medication and lab work as appropriate.
• Maintain all necessary documentation and records which are necessary in the daily work of psychiatry in a timely manner, including, but not limited to, the use of an electronic health record system (EHR).
• Working with the Clerk of Court, prepare and complete court documents and reports. Testify during court proceedings for minors at Judicial Review hearings for minors at Restrictive 24-hour facilities based on evaluations, supporting documentation and reports.
• Provide education to individuals and their guardians to aid in understanding their diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment.
• Collaborate, coordinate and consult with other providers such as counselors, psychologists, social workers, and medical staff of local providers, including, but not limited to, state hospitals, local hospitals, other community agencies, primary healthcare providers, PRTFs, etc., to discuss treatment plans, progress in services, medical aspects of the person being supported and the implications of their physical healthcare needs.
• Provide clinical supervision as assigned to advanced practice practitioners, physician assistants and nurse practitioners who will be added to his/her North Carolina medical license as the collaborating physician. Maintain credentialing as required.
• Maintain trainings as required and requested
• Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures and assist in crisis situations
• Demonstrate knowledge of and comply with all agency policies and procedures
• Complete all other relevant responsibilities assigned by the supervisor
• Driving and travel may be required

Additional Information (If Applicable):

Flexible Part Time role consisting of 20-24 hours per week, working 4 - 5 hour days per week, or 3 - 8 hour days per week. Position requires the provider to be onsite at least 1 day per week, averaged over a quarter.
