Medical Coder - Remote In Multiple Locations

This position is full - time. Employees are required to work our normal business hours of 6:00 AM - 3:30 PM CST (Central Standard Time) including the flexibility to work occasional overtime and weekends based on business need. Training will be conducted virtually from your home.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Travel within the service area to perform medical record reviews as needed
• Conduct research in order to define suspects
• Perform chart reviews based on suspects to recover diagnoses not coded
• Evaluate and communicate documentation and coding deficiencies in provider records
• Conduct chart reviews to validate data accepted by CMS
• Maintain professional relationships with physicians and / or staff
• Maintain work calendars and comply with all internal processes
• Understand and keep up to date with Risk Adjustment and ICD - 10 - CM Guidelines
• Set priorities for own work assignments and uses initiative in completion of tasks
• Participate in auditing projects as assigned
• Assist in training new members of the coding team
• Assist in special projects as directed
• Perform any other tasks as requested by the Director or Managers

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
• 3+ years of experience with working in Medical Coding
• Coding Certification (CPC)
• Microsoft Office including Microsoft Word (create correspondence and work within templates), Microsoft Excel (ability to sort, filter, and create simple spreadsheets), and Microsoft Outlook (ability to retrieve emails, access calendar, and schedule meetings)
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  
• Ability to work any shift between the hours of 6:00 AM - 3:30 PM CST (Central Standard Time) including the flexibility to work occasional overtime and weekends based on business need

Preferred Qualifications:

• Coding Certification (CCS - P)

• Reside within LA, TX, OR MS
• Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
• Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
• Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service
