The Center for Disabilities and Development is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant II. Under supervision of CDD Nurse Manager, perform patient care, medical information management, patient scheduling and clinic support functions for the Center for Disabilities and Development's Healy Outpatient Clinic.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, shift between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Monitor and facilitate the flow of patients through the CDD Healy Clinic by communicating with registration staff members, nurse manager, clinicians and patients and families about changes in clinic schedule.
- Assists physicians and nurse practitioners with physical examinations of patients and related treatments, including processes such as taking and recording vital signs with height/weight/head circumference, patient history, medication records, allergies and immunizations.
- Manages CDD and UIHC medical records and information to ensure that information is available for clinicians, patients and families. Receives requests for prescription refills and processes requests as appropriate. Assists in providing coverage for nursing triage telephone service, providing information and referring requests to appropriate individuals.
- Administers medications that can be administered by a certified Medical Assistant. Performs routine laboratory tests as needed. Identifies vaccination needs for specific patient populations.
- Performs related clerical tasks including answering telephones, compiling data into reports, preparing correspondence and other related duties. Provides clerical support for CDD Nurse Manager.
- Assists with scheduling patient appointments, registering patients and assisting with obtaining insurance preauthorization and billing processes.
- Assists with billing procedures.
- Assists in the Healy Medical Clinic and offices as requested.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
- Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant or completion of a recognized one year Medical Assistant Program, or
- Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to: pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology.
Special Qualification:
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program accredited by ABHES or CAAHEP, graduation from a college with institutional accreditation by regional or national accrediting agency approved by the U.S. Department of Education, or LPN licensure is required.
Desired Qualifications:
- Has experience working in a health care environment with direct patient care
- Ability to communicate effectively with hospital staff
- Strong written communication skills
- Customer service experience
- Previous healthcare support experience
- Demonstrated competency in medical terminology
- Demonstrated computer skills and ability to navigate the EMR
