MCC is currently seeking a MECHANICAL DESIGN INTERN. The Mechanical Design Intern is responsible for designing Automation and Robotics projects under the oversight of a design engineer. Working from concept through completion by utilizing SolidWorks for 3D designing of weldments, equipment, layouts, etc. The Intern will work alongside multidisciplinary project teams to develop, define, and execute automation projects to solve complex problems and assist stakeholders in meeting demands of an ever-changing environment.

1. Maintain accountability for safety, functionality, timelines, & cost while fulfilling contracted scope of work.

2. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of Designers, Programmers, Project Managers and Fabricators.

3. Participate with team & customers to determine project scope and timelines. Provide regular task updates.

4. Research and specify equipment and components while ensuring compatibility with overall system.

5. Develop 2D/3D layouts & equipment designs with consideration for facility layout, access, ergonomics, etc.

6. Detail designs to provide manufacturing prints, cut files, & BOMs while following company mechanical standards.

7. Incorporate understanding of metal fabrication and machine shop processes into designs.

8. Utilize SolidWorks for 3D designing of weldments, equipment, layouts, etc.

9. Utilize AutoCAD and/or DraftSight to generate 2D system layouts within building infrastructure.

10. Collaborate with design team on the development of products to ensure structural integrity is maintained.

11. Communicate effectively and considerately with other employees, vendors and/or customers of varying educational and cultural backgrounds.

12. Facilitate internal and external design reviews and incorporate input from project team and customers.

13. Work through the revision/approval process and properly document revisions.

14. Prepare and review quotes, change orders, specification sheets, estimates of design hours, etc.

15. Store project documents on the vault/server following current filing process and mechanical standards.

16. Responsible for meeting design schedule milestones.

17. Ability to complete daily tasks with limited supervision and minimal errors requiring re-work.

18. Must be able to complete job duties proficiently while adapting to changing demands and priorities.

19. Recommend design modifications for equipment malfunctions.

20. Take field measurements of existing equipment, utilities, or facilities for design purposes.

21. Perform quality checks and support installation, setup, & integration of systems and equipment as required.

22. Travel to customer & vendor facilities as required.

a. Maintain valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company policy.

23. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS


• The work environment consists of the typical indoor office environments, and the possibility of outdoor construction sites, exposing the employee to extreme temperatures, humidity, wind, rain, ice, and snow.

• Must wear the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required for this position and different jobsite environments.

• Involves frequent contact with other employees. May require working under stressful conditions.

• Requires manual dexterity for office machine operation including computer, printers and copiers.

• Requires manual dexterity, bending to handle supplies, and mobility to complete errands or deliveries.

• Must be able to occasionally lift and/or carry/move up to 50lbs.

• Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.

• Must be able to perform repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and arms.

• Must be able to complete job duties proficiently while adapting to changing demands and priorities.

• Must have the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and concentrate for long periods of time to perform duties in a safe manner.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Required

• Currently enrolled pursuing a Professional Degree or Technical Certification in Mechanical Engineering or Drafting.

• Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills

• Good organizational and time-management skills

• Capable of producing precision technical plans, prints, drawings, and models

• Understanding of mechanical principles and properties

• Good Basic knowledge of 3D CAD software, SolidWorks preferred

• Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite

• Ability to envision potential solutions, provide rough concepts, and finish and detail designs for build

• A current valid driver’s license, with satisfactory driving record

Preferred

• Knowledgeable in use of AutoCAD and/or DraftSight

• Understanding of tolerancing for machining

• Knowledge of metal fabrication, welding, and machining processes
