Turbocharged high performance engine developer and manufacturer, Banks Power, is seeking a Level III Mechanical Design Engineer with automotive experience. This position will research, plan and design mechanical and electromechanical products and systems related to automotive applications of diesel and gasoline high-performance engines. The ideal candidate will direct and coordinate activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.

Essential Duties:

  • Design automotive aftermarket high-performance components and systems (e.g. turbochargers, intercoolers, air intakes, superchargers, wastegates, intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, etc.) Create 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks. Expert knowledge in manufacturing and GD&T a must.
  • Coordinate prototype fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and specification. Evaluate and recommend design modifications.
  • Manage multiple projects from conception to production by researching, planning, and designing mechanical and electromechanical automotive performance products and systems with minimal supervision.
  • Write technical specifications and engineering documents; develop Bills of Material, assist technical product installation manuals and owner’s manuals including illustrations.
  • Interact with internal and external entities such as purchasing, supplier, quality, manufacturing, customer service, installation, and outside vendors throughout all phases of product development.
  • Provides technical direction to team members in the design, development, and testing of mechanical components, equipment, machinery, and systems.
  • Interact with engineering personnel in the fabrication of test apparatus and equipment, and the development of methods and procedures for testing products and systems. Analyze test data and summarize findings, write technical engineering reports and engineering documents.
  • Ensure the professional and courteous atmosphere in the Engineering department at all times and always maintain a positive and professional demeanor and with good work ethic.
  • Observes, reviews, and checks the work of design engineers to ensure conformance to standards and provides accountability for any design deviations. Assist and mentor junior engineers as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar with 8 years of related work experience or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 6 years of related work experience.
  • Must have automotive industry knowledge and an in-depth understanding of manufacturing methods, techniques and tolerances.
  • Experience or involvement with FSAE, BAJA, or similar academic clubs is highly preferred.
  • Must have experience in successfully managing multiple projects and tasks with the ability to work in a fast paced challenging environment.
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and create scientific and engineering documents, technical journals, technical drawings, technical specifications, test results, and SAE papers.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries and requests from internal departments, customers or regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to write clearly and informatively, produce and present technical data effectively, and write instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, percentages and decimals. Ability to apply principals of advanced algebra and trigonometry.
  • Ability to perform complex calculation of physics.

Computer Skills:

  • Advanced level of SolidWorks (minimum 6 years experience)
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word).
  • Advanced FEA and CFD skill level.
