Position Summary:
The Manager of Quality and Patient Safety will work collaboratively with the Director & Vice President (VP) Quality & Patient Safety to oversee all clinical quality and patient safety activities for Long Beach Medical Center. This position provides leadership for quality and hospital staff in the development, implementation, measurement, and monitoring of strategic initiatives that assure that clinical quality outcomes are being met. The focus of this position is on decreasing patient harm and adverse events, and to identify opportunities for improvement in patient care. The manager will oversee development, initiation, and sustainment of improvement initiatives in quality and patient safety, as well as evidence-based care guidelines and policies to ensure that LBMC achieves optimal healthcare outcomes to the patients we serve. The manager works together with the Director & VP in areas of Regulatory/Accreditation, Epidemiology/Employee Health Service, Patient Relations/Interpreter Services and Patient Experience.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Strategic:
I. With the Director &VP, the Manager, Quality and Patient Safety will position LBMC as a national leader in clinical quality and patient safety.
2. The Manager, Quality and Patient Safety will continuously assess, review, evaluate, and implement programs to expand what the organization is doing to achieve the bold goals as outlined by the MemorialCare Strategic Plan.
3. This individual is also accountable for the regulatory compliance of the hospital on an ongoing basis for any announced or unannounced accreditation surveys including but not limited to CMS, Joint Commission, CDPH, and others as assigned.
4. This position will oversee external reporting groups such as CHART, Leapfrog, and others as assigned.
5. Provide Lean Leader Certified oversight of the organization wide performance improvement and patient safety plans for LBMC.
6. Performs others duties as assigned.
Operations:
1. Participates actively on Medical Staff QRC/CPI and Patient and Safety Risk Prevention Committees.
2. Participates in campus intensive assessments, root cause analysis, and sentinel event reviews with the CMO & VP.
3. Participates with medical staff leadership and physicians to identify and facilitate implementation of best practices and recommend enhancements to processes or standards to support mitigation of risk and improvement of quality.
4. Oversees progress and remediation of Plan of Correction (POC) and Performance Improvement (PI) activities related to quality.
5. Participate in quality related projects or training throughout the organization.
6. Work with Director & VP to determine frequency, location, audit methodology and staffing levels required to execute QA plan(s) at LBMC.
7. Oversees and improves data monitoring tools and metrics for analyzing and reporting Crimson data to enhance quality initiatives including but not limited to quality outcomes resource utilization and clinical documentation improvement.
8. Participates in research in healthcare delivery science, infection prevention, quality outcomes and submits presentations on behalf of MemorialCare at state and national meetings.
9. Direct quality and safety educational projects that provides physicians, clinicians and staff with underlying competencies needed for creating a safe healthcare environment.
Regulatory and Accreditation, Environment of Care :
1. Ensures all state and federal regulations at LBMC are met. Identify organizational opportunities to increase survey readiness for all leaders and staff. Create remediation action plans to address areas of opportunity for improvement identified during federal (TJC, CMS) surveys and state (GACHLS and CDPH) survey. Create dashboard of prioritized Environment of Care (EOC) issues identified with enhanced focus on infection control and quality oversight of EOC program.
Epidemiology & Employee Health Services:
1. Create an environment for innovation and success of the infection control program in accordance with objectives and policies of LB medical staff, accreditation agencies, and the MemorialCare system.
2. Assist in the investigation of sentinel events, nosocomial outbreaks, clusters, and recommend strategies for containing and reducing outbreaks.
Patient Relations/Interpreter Services/Guest Services/Volunteers:
1. Participate in Grievance Committee and Patient Experience Oversight team meetings
2. Support diversity plan and interpreter services for limited-English proficient patients and deaf/hearing impaired population.
Pay Range: $116,937.60 - $175.406.40
Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the areas of clinical quality management, performance improvement, patient safety, patient experience, risk management, medical staff peer review.
- Key characteristics of the incumbent include:
- Ability to inspire, create, and articulate a shared, compelling vision which translates into actionable measures to attain the organization's strategic performance goals.
- A broad and in-depth knowledge of quality management, patient safety, health information technology, and peer review to enhance physician performance and practice efficiency.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally in team environments to develop, evaluate, and execute best practice initiatives designed to promote excellence across the care continuum.
- Demonstrated innovative ideas in health care delivery with ability to influence and acquire necessary resources across departments.
- High emotional quotient with a mature, self-confident demeanor that is effective and credible across all levels of the organization, including senior management and medical staff.
- High level of proficiency with analytic tools (e.g. Crimson) & to display data for action oriented results
Education
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred
- RN preferred
- Clinical experience preferred.
