West Virginia University Personal Rapid Transit System (PRT) is seeking applications for a Manager Physical Plant II-(3rd Shift Electrician Supervisor).

About the Opportunity

The Morgantown Personal Rapid Transit System (PRT) is a totally automated public transportation system consisting of five passenger stations, seventy-three automated vehicles, two maintenance facilities, nine miles of dedicated guideway and a vast array of ancillary equipment, the Supervisor/PRT Maintenance is responsible to organize and direct the maintenance effort for a shift of maintenance personnel of various trades and skill levels. This position may hire/fire or strongly recommend such personnel actions. This position is responsible to regularly monitor the PRT maintenance workload and accomplish and provide daily direction for the efficient and effective use of resources to accomplish the necessary maintenance activities. This position provides the technical electrical expertise to perform and direct the in depth troubleshooting and repair to a wide variety of complex electrical, mechanical, and/or electronic systems, equipment, and procedures. This position works predominantly 3rd shift (10:00pm to 6:00am) but may rotate through other shifts as needed (including weekends), overtime, and at times is on-call.

WORK HOURS: 3rd Shift 10:00 pm - 6:00 am (Sunday Night through Thursday Night)

PAY GRADE - 17 WVU provides competitive wages for its employees and takes related experience and education into consideration when determining appropriate salary.

What you'll do:

35%

  • At the beginning of the shift, reviews the status of the maintenance workload and coordinates work to be accomplished. Consistently monitors maintenance radio traffic and directs immediate response to PRT failures and emergencies. Directs the activities of a shift of 3-5 electrical maintenance technicians. Provides quality assurance by overseeing work and ensuring that the work performed, and the associated reports, comply with established procedures, policies, and best practices. Provides written shift tie-in and work plans, and coordinates with other shift supervisors to ensure continuity between shifts. Assists other shifts with system opening/closing duties, as needed. Directs preventive maintenance, in-depth troubleshooting, and repairs of all PRT electrical equipment. Constantly appraises circumstances to ensure compliance with PRT safety manuals, SOP's and practices and initiates changes as required. Communicates directly with non-PRT agencies (other WVU & State agencies, contractors, suppliers, etc.) in matters relating to the PRT.

  • Performs supervisory/administrative duties such as: subordinate personnel discipline, employee performance evaluations, personnel shift assignments, job applicant interviewing, vacation and sick leave approval and policy enforcement. Collaborates with other PRT Supervisors to provide consistent personnel leadership on all shifts, plans, coordinates, and carries out technical training programs for subordinates to improve individual performance and qualifications. Participates in job description preparation and review. Provides input on policy issues. Generates, approves, and submits proper paperwork for incidents, accidents, injuries, and routine maintenance events. Provides input for equipment purchases, repair/rebuild and replacement. Make recommendations for hardware and procedural changes, which become evident during performance of the PRT maintenance effort. Provides estimates and plans for special tasks and work plans. Coordinates daily work activities with other PRT departments (Central, Engineering, Stores). Attends training and meetings as assigned.


30%

  • As necessary, performs in-depth troubleshooting and repairs to all PRT electrical equipment and PRT vehicles, and participates with repair crews of different trades (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, HVAC) to perform repairs to a wide variety of PRT equipment. Functions as a MOCU (Manual Override Control Unit) operator and makes on-the-spot evaluation of anomalous vehicle and guideway conditions. When necessary, provides PRT power system breaker operation and racking (securing in an open or closed position). During times of unusual circumstances and system emergencies, as necessary, may perform the duties listed in the PRT mechanical or electrical technician job description. This position may be required to work beyond scheduled work hours; however, the manager must assign and/or approve in advance any hours that are worked beyond the regular schedule. Operates the PRT guideway heating system, as necessary. May also perform system and vehicle de-icing and snow removal, as necessary. Supports PRT operation for special events (football, basketball, concerts, etc.)


Qualifications

  • Associates degree normally acquired through over 18 months in a technical/trade school. Equivalent education, experience, military training, or electrical courses beyond high school may be substituted.
  • A minimum of three (3) Years experience involving the following:
    • Demonstrated ability to perform and/or direct mechanical maintenance and lead people.
  • Job requires broad trade knowledge of the methods, tools, hazards, and safety practices of the electrical trade (sufficient to perform and direct the in-depth troubleshooting and repairs to PRT-specific electrical systems).
    • Good general knowledge of the basic principles related to other systems utilized by the PRT (i.e., mechanical, electronics, HVAC)
    • Ability to gain in-depth knowledge of WVU and PRT policies and procedures.
    • Ability to gain in-depth knowledge of PRT electrical equipment and interface systems.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with people and provide professional leadership.
    • Ability to understand and implement verbal instructions.
    • Ability to read, understand and provide written responses to a variety of technical and non-technical correspondence.
    • Demonstrated ability to organize and direct the maintenance effort and emergency responses for personnel of various trades and skill levels.
    • Knowledge of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques.


  • Valid US driver's license required.
  • 3-5 Electricians (Only on this shift).
  • All positions are direct report, Performance review, Train, and Hire/Fire.
