The Health & Fitness Manager hires, trains, develops and manages the fitness staff, including health and fitness specialists, group exercise instructors and personal trainers. This position must possess excellent leadership skills and have a passion for helping others achieve their health and wellness goals. The ability to lead and create first class fitness and wellness programming and experiences for members is a key quality. This position is part of the leadership team responsible for the performance of financial and business targets specific to sales and operations of the Medical Fitness Center.
Responsibilities:
Manages the work activities of the Wellness fitness staff to include the health fitness specialists, group exercise instructors and personal trainers.
a.Interview, hires and trains staff; evaluates performance and provides feedback; makes personnel recommendations (e.g. promotions, transfers, discipline, and discharge).
Develops and facilitates the new member orientation process which includes a computerized physiological assessment, personalized exercise prescription, facility equipment orientation and a session with the Wellness registered dietician.
Develops and facilitates the ongoing member retention strategy, including utilization tracking, identifying ?zero user? fitness assessments and fitness assessments/review of exercise prescriptions of entire membership twice annually.
Develops and manages the personal training and group exercise program to meet or exceed both member and budgetary expectations.
Develops and maintains a system for repairing and documenting malfunctioning exercise equipment. Exercise equipment should not be down longer than 72 hours. Facilitates a system to maintain equipment cleanliness and preventative maintenance.
Manages and encourages the fitness staff to develop a wide range of fitness related seminars, clinics and incentive-based exercise programs.
Implements a promotional strategy to generate maximum participation in all fitness activities and programs.
Stays up to date with current fitness and wellness industry trends and evidence-based practices and thinks creatively on incorporating them into membership offerings.

Three years supervisory experience of a health and fitness staff in a community commercial corporate or clinical health facility. Knowledge of administrative procedures and personnel management. Background in physiological assessment, exercise prescription, and health promotion specifically stress management, nutritional awareness and wellness.
