The Manager, Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting will report directly to the Company’s Assistant Controller and Director of Financial Reporting and will be integral in leading Alexander & Baldwin, Inc.’s financial reporting function. The Financial Reporting function is responsible for the following:

• The Company’s periodic filings with the SEC (Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, registration statements, XBRL tagging, etc.);

• The reporting of financial information for Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. and its divisions, subsidiaries and corporate departments;

• Providing timely, accurate and meaningful financial reports to management and the Board of Directors;

• Research and implement complex accounting guidance and disclosures;

• Assists with ensuring highest standards of internal and disclosure controls.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage the external and internal financial reporting process which includes preparing SEC filings (Form 10-K and Form 10-Q), supplemental information and monthly financial reporting packages.

o Prepare timelines, meeting materials and distribute draft filings.

• Supervision/coordination of information gathering activities to ensure required schedules are obtained from other business units and departments, as well as reviewing to ensure the accuracy / integrity of information supporting the Company’s SEC filings. This includes proper supervision and review of schedules prepared by accounting teams and, in some cases, preparation of schedules.

• Direct month-end close activities including preparing monthly financial reporting package and identifying financial statement line items for investigation.

o Disseminating internal financial reports including those at various reporting levels of the Company (e.g., consolidated, operating segment, reporting unit, legal entity, REIT versus TRS, etc.)

o Supervise the preparation of the quarterly ASC 718 expense calculation and disclosure reporting with stock services and third-party vendor.

• Responding to ad hoc queries from management and other departments regarding the composition or details behind financial reporting historical balances/transactions.

• Proactively identifying, researching, consulting and drafting technical memorandums on significant proposed and or completed transactions and issues.

o Lead all research and remain current with new technical accounting standards, especially those that impact financial reporting for the Company

• Supporting Financial Reporting/Accounting for significant/unusual transactions and reporting needs which may include (but are not limited to) acquisitions (including integrations), dispositions (including due diligence and marketing efforts), discontinued operations/held for sale presentations, new accounting standard implementations, ad hoc filings requiring pro forma financial information, registration statements, etc.

• Active role in evaluating, developing or implementing new processes and procedures to drive improvements and efficiencies, including automating financial reporting processes & procedures.

o Creating and implementing process improvements which include testing, validating and documenting change process.

o Developing business-based project deliverables (scope, time, cost, resource, and quality requirements).

• Interact with other business units/functions within the Company and with the external auditors to coordinate reviews/audits, as well as address and resolve accounting issues.

• Calculation of key performance metrics (e.g. same store sales metrics, NOI metrics, backlog, EBITDA, FFO, Core FFO, AFFO, etc.).

• Prepare and assist with other ad-hoc financial information requests from internal tax department, investor relations and other functions.

o Partner with investor relations for consistency of information in earnings releases, slides and scripts and other ad-hoc presentations to investors to externally disseminated information (i.e. 10-K, 10-Q and Supplemental) and ensure the information is tied out to the aforementioned documents.

o Prepares all census and other governmental reports and tracks the progress of those separately prepared the Company’s business units.

• Assist with implementation of standardized policies and procedures throughout the Company’s accounting organization.

o Partner with Assistant Controller and accounting team for accounting questions as they arise.

• Performing other duties or special project requests as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

• Self-driven with proactive nature to identify needs of the department/organization, courage to venture into unfamiliar processes and areas, decisiveness to initiate necessary process improvements, and accountability to drive such process improvements to ultimate execution.

• Rigorous attention to detail and ability to efficiently maintain report accuracy while meeting tight deadlines.

• Strong understanding of accounting principles and SEC filing requirements.

• Effective communication and collaboration skills as well as previous experience with project management, business processes and systems.

• Experience in project management demonstrating the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment to meet goals and deadlines and collaborate with multiple parties with a high degree of integrity, tact, and diplomacy.

• Deep understanding of financial reporting cycle, best practices and data flow among financial systems in compliance with SOX requirement.

• Strategic thinker with strong attention to details and demonstrates active enthusiasm for solving problems and making valuable contributions to the Company.

• Ability to lead others through clear communication, coordination, project planning and project prioritization.

• Ability to identify key issues and offer practical solutions.

• Advanced computer skills on MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and willingness to learn new systems.

• Yardi Voyager, Yardi Elevate, Workiva, Shareworks by Morgan Stanley experience (preferred).

• Work independently, think critically and apply consistent standards.

• Be proactive and flexible in a dynamic environment.

REQUIREMENTS

• 6+ years of accounting experience, Big 4 public accounting experience is preferred. CPA with SEC reporting experience and a strong knowledge of financial statement preparation and generally accepted accounting principles.
