Key member of a small team with a broad range or responsibilities related primarily to the American National Standards process and ANSI's participation in international standards development via ANSI-Accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Groups to ISO.
Position requires a unique combination of skills including competency in data management using FileMaker Pro databases, procedural compliance assessment/analysis, implementation of procedural rules and professional interpersonal communications. Responsible for managing and maintaining ANSI's Filemaker Pro v18 (FM) databases within the Procedures & Standards Administration (PSA) Department and for providing support to users in other departments as appropriate. This position requires working on a daily basis as part of several cross-functional teams and serving as a FM-related problem solver. Position works in partnership with ANSI Publishing staff to provide ongoing data management and FM support for the timely and efficient production of Standards Action - ANSI's primary public review vehicle - using various FM scripts, reports and online data sources. In addition, position is responsible for the production and publication of various routine and on-demand reports used by the public and ANSI's members.
This position is a key day-to-day liaison with ANSI-Accredited Standards Developers (ASDs) concerning American National Standards (ANS) data as well as ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAGs to ISO and many other ANSI Departments, concerning access to FM data.
Essential Functions
  • Maintain and manage FileMaker-based database applications that support or relate to various ANSI program areas that interface with PSA.
  • Master ANSI's procedural requirements and ensure procedural compliance of FM applications within PSA's scope of work.
  • Download, reconcile and manage ANS data submitted through ANS Online Forms (PINS, BSR-8, etc.) and prepare related deliverables, including parts of Standards Action, public reports posted on ANSI's website, annual billing for all ANSI-Accredited Standards Developers (ASD), annual compliance certification tracking and reporting, and more.
  • Manage and update various procedural compliance tracking systems.
  • Administer, troubleshoot, and reverse-engineer a range of existing automated scripts including withdrawal of overage standards, continuous maintenance of ANS, annual billing, etc.
  • Maintain ANSI-Accredited Standards Developer (ASD) contact database.
  • Maintain ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAG to ISO accreditation contact database.
  • In conjunction with IT and Publishing, support and administrate FM database server security and user permissions based on Microsoft AD groups.
  • Design and generate reports as needed.
  • Communicate professionally and in a timely manner with ANSI-Accredited Standards Developers daily with respect to data submittals and procedural compliance issues.
  • Communicate professionally and in a timely manner with ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAGs to ISO daily with respect to the maintenance of accreditation and compliance requirements.
  • Develop, organize, maintain and update PSA-related FM system documentation and related user guides.
  • Work with ANSI's Publishing Department daily.
  • Work with ANSI's IT Department as needed to ensure the integrity of PSA's online forms, upgrade FM periodically and as requested.
  • Work with external FM Consultants as needed and in cooperation with ANSI's Publishing Department and/or IT.
  • Participate in PSA Department training programs, including delivery of webinars and in-person training.
  • Participate in or lead special projects as assigned.

Information Security Responsibilities
  • Attend/complete assigned information security training by the designated completion date.
  • Read and adhere to published ISMS policies and procedures.
  • Report timely any observed violations of ISMS policy - or known encroachments on information security - to your department leader and/or the Information Technology Department.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional work experience.
  • Relevant professional data management and office work experience.
  • Professional experience managing, developing and programming FileMaker databases preferred.
  • Knowledge of FileMaker Pro (v18 client and server or greater), MS Office, SharePoint, SQL and relational databases.

Other Qualifications
  • Professional experience required working with and managing large complex data sets in a relational database, for example, some 500 entities contribute data for various purposes, in various formats (some in accordance with published schedules with strict deadlines) and in different contexts throughout the year, many weekly. Normalizing data so that it can be maintained, tracked and published is an ongoing and key role.
  • Extensive experience with database concepts, functions, and maintenance including data manipulation skills such as building queries, building and running scripts/macros, building and running sorts, running reports, and importing and exporting data in a variety of formats; experience with DB development/design, such as building field definitions, building relational tables, and designing reports, and troubleshooting and reverse-engineering existing DB solutions, ideally all in FileMaker Pro v18 client/server.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong IT-based design skills.
  • Comfortable working in a multi-tasking, deadline-driven environment as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff successfully within and external to ANSI.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with some supervision and guidance provided by multiple colleagues.
  • Able to prioritize workload, handle details and follow through on actions.
  • Comfortable working with technology staff.
