Job Description:

The Mammography Technologist is responsible for detecting breast tissue abnormalities through mammographic imaging studies and presenting them for diagnosis. Responsibilities include:

• - Greeting patients, confirming their identification, reviewing imaging requests, checking for special instructions, and confirming anticipated services.
• - Gaining patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, providing explanations of imaging procedures, explaining equipment, and answering questions.
• - Conducting mammography studies by positioning breasts, adjusting compression mechanisms, instructing patients to hold their breath, and ensuring safety measures are in place.
• - Minimizing radiation exposure to patients and staff by following radiation protection techniques.
• - Maintaining the production and quality of mammograms by adhering to established standards and procedures, observing results, making necessary adjustments, and forwarding completed studies to radiologists for interpretation.
• - Ensuring the operation of mammography equipment by performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and managing equipment inventories.
• - Keeping mammography supplies and patient gowns ready by managing stock, placing orders, and processing laundry.
• - Maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by adhering to standards and procedures.
• - Documenting patient mammogram services by completing patient record charting.
• - Updating job knowledge through participation in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and engaging with professional organizations.

Requirements:

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• - Current BLS certification.
• - Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic technology training in an AMA-approved school and the ability to meet the requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT).
• - Mammographic Radiologic Technology certification.
• - Proficiency in operating sophisticated computer equipment.
• - A strong interest in scientific and technical skills and knowledge.
• - Ability to interact compassionately and effectively with sick or injured individuals.
• - Effective communication skills.
• - Strong ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions.
