Central San, a progressive public utility, is seeking a Maintenance Crew Member I. This position will perform a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, and manual work in the construction, repairing, cleaning, locating, and inspection of the wastewater collection system and reclaimed water distribution system. Duties will include operating a variety of light construction equipment and wastewater system cleaning machines.
Eligible to apply for advancement to the level II position ($3,519.76 - $4,258.56 biweekly) after 18 months, upon completion of training, and passing the Maintenance Crew Member II Exam.

Typical duties may include:
- Performing a variety of construction, repair, cleaning, and inspection work including rodding, hydroflush cleaning, television camera inspection, locating, and new pipe underground construction.
- Operating a variety of vehicles and equipment including loaders, pumps, compressors, and heavy-duty trucks with trailers.
- Setting up and operating a variety of equipment including rodding, hydrovac, locating, and CCTV.
- Breaking and cutting concrete and paved surfaces using a variety of tools including jackhammers and pavement and cement saws.
- Performing patch-paving and general carpentry and masonry work.
- Excavating trenches to line and grade, repairing old pipe, and installing new pipe, couplings, and fittings.
- Repairing, replacing, and installing structures such as manholes, rodding inlets, and pressure-relief valves.
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience:
Maintenance Crew Member I: Two (2) years of experience in construction, maintenance, or repair of pipelines, plants, buildings, truck, and equipment operation.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License. A valid out of state driver's license will be accepted during the application process. Must possess a valid California Driver's License within 90 days of appointment.
- Possession of a valid Class A Driver's License. Must meet all written, physical, testing, and notification requirements established by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Possession of valid special endorsement to Class A California Driver's License to operate heavy trucks with manual transmission, air brakes, and bulk liquid loads. Newly hired or promoted employees must meet these requirements prior to successful completion of probationary status.- As a condition of continued employment, within 12 months of eligibility, incumbents must pass the CWEA Grade I examination.
- Successful completion of an approved course as a California Competent Person within twelve months of appointment.
- Successful completion of Cal/OSHA flagger/traffic control certification course within twelve months of appointment.

The most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process. Human Resources shall determine the examination steps to be used for this recruitment. The steps may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, practical examination, application screening, and/or oral board examination. One or more of these steps may be used and in any order. At the end of the testing process, candidates passing all of the examination steps will have their names placed on an eligibility list. The list is valid for six months and may be extended up to an additional six months at the request of the hiring department.
Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to the examination process. All applicants will be notified via email of the results of the review process.
