The State of New Hampshire, Department of Labor, Workers Compensation Bureau has a full-time vacancy for Legal Secretary II.

Summary:
Provide legal secretarial support to the Hearings Bureau at the Department of Labor by typing and transcribing legal documents, decisions, correspondences, and legal orders.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree

36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree

54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master's degree

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Three years of experience in a secretarial position, including experience in a legal office or an area which provided experience with legal terminology.

License/Certification: None required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of modern office equipment and methods of operation. Knowledge of English usage and legal terminology. Knowledge of office methods, policies and procedures. Knowledge of law library filing systems. Skill in transcribing dictation, including legal terminology. Skill in typing accurately and rapidly. Ability to compose correspondence in acceptable form from general instructions. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees, lawyers and the public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.

Responsibilities:

• Take dictation, edit and draft legal decisions, correspondence and orders on behalf of Hearings Officers and Attorneys.

• Draft correspondences and proofread decisions to produce court-ready legal documents and correspondences.

• Set up and maintain Hearing Officer date books and files to ensure statutory deadlines are met and documentation is maintained.

• Coordinate problem resolution between the hearings bureau and the scheduling departments concerning hearings.

• Maintain tracking sheets and hearing decision log data sheets to review workflow, prioritize decisions and assure the statutory guidelines are met.

• Maintain the secretarial policy handbook and orient staff on Bureau practices and policies to assist in the training of new secretarial staff.
