The University of Maine at Farmington is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time lecturer position in the Division of the Arts with a half-time release as Director of the Emery Community Arts Center (ECAC). This is an ongoing appointment in Visual Arts. The position includes a half-time teaching load and summer work with stipend.  Specific courses may include offerings in general education, graduate education, and most importantly, courses that support the Visual Art program's Digital Arts curriculum (including 2-D digital design, digital media, digital photography, and video) and other foundational art courses as needed. Responsibilities as Director of ECAC include the expectation of overseeing day-to-day operations of a multi-venue arts space, including curating, programming, and coordinating visual and performing arts events as well as supervising technical staff, managing promotional media and community outreach, and administrating the annual programming budget. 

 

The successful candidate will join a small interdisciplinary arts program, organize and oversee an active schedule of arts programming, bring regionally and nationally recognized artists, musicians, performers and scholars to Farmington, and provide UMF students, faculty, staff and residents of Western Maine with opportunities to experience an eclectic range of traditional, contemporary and experimental art forms, engage with new ideas and gain a deeper appreciation for the importance of art in civic life. In addition to running the ECAC and supervising technical staff, the candidate will be expected to maintain regularly scheduled office hours and advise undergraduate students in their programs of study. Excellence and commitment to teaching, service to the department and university, and productivity in creative and research activities is required.

 

The candidate should have an interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and experiential learning and bring equal commitment to majors and non-majors in an undergraduate public liberal arts setting. The candidate is also expected to maintain an active creative/research practice and provide service to the department, university, and profession. The position will begin September 1, 2023 and will be a full-time ongoing appointment.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Masters of Fine Arts

  • Evidence of excellence in college teaching

  • Administrative experience leading and curating a university or non-profit arts

 

Preferred:

  • Five or more years of experience teaching at the college level

  • Five or more years of experience in an administrative and curatorial role at a university gallery or other applicable non-profit arts
