Job Details:
The Labor Relations Leader is responsible for the development and successful implementation of the Company's overall labor strategy to include union and non-union sites, domestically and internationally. Reporting to the Head of Global Labor Strategy, Team Member Relations & Chief Diversity Officer, this critical leadership role will lead a team of subject matter experts and support to Business and Functional Leaders, and to the overall Human Resources function, to ensure successful implementation and execution of labor and employee relations policies, initiatives, support and services. This leader will collaborate, globally, to identify, implement, and oversee the execution of emerging and ongoing labor and employee relations strategies and tactics, including collective bargaining, conflict resolution, risk mitigation, employee engagement initiatives, and compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead a Center of Excellence team of labor and employee relations subject matter experts who support Tyson's population of 140,000 global team members.
  • Design, plan, and implement a Labor Relations program, and oversee a team who will represent senior leadership during contract negotiations, grievance meetings, and on other labor matters.
  • Assist the leadership team in developing and implementing Labor Relations strategies that are consistent with organization initiatives, comply with legal requirements, and promote positive employee relations.
  • Develop and manage practices and tools to support the negotiation and contract administration of 40 separate collective bargaining agreements covering approximately 33,000 team members.
  • Partner with in-house Legal Counsel and external attorneys regarding employee and Labor Relations strategy, planning, and organizational compliance.
  • Collaborate with leaders and oversee the team's development of negotiation strategies, proposals, including cost implications for both proposed collective bargaining and one-off agreements.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with regional and international labor group representatives, serving as their main point of contact.
  • Develop a strategy to strengthen and maintain our direct working relationship status for the 70,000 team members at non-union sites.
  • Partner with internal and external experts to anticipate potential workforce changes to proactively propose a mitigation plan.
  • Partner with operations leaders across all functions regarding risk mitigation and contingency planning due to potential workforce disruptions.
  • Develop and execute, in collaboration with HR Team and Function leaders, policies, practices, tools, and developmental resources that drive results.
  • Ensure business strategies comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations that are relevant to employee and Labor Relations issues and facilities compliance standards.
  • Maintain and manage productive, efficient, and cost-effective relationships with Company stakeholders, relevant government bodies (NLRB, DOL, etc.), key union leadership, and Labor Relations/HR operations shared service vendors/suppliers.
  • Consults, advises and educates senior leadership on all employee and global Labor Relations issues of strategic importance, labor laws, policies, and trends, including works councils.
  • Develops (builds capability), leads, and directs Employee & Labor Relations Leads, HR Business Partners and other COE teams to facilitate objectives and improve performance and potential in the area of labor and solutions.
  • Prepare budgetary recommendations that meet HR department goals and provide for effective management of resources and support of the operational team.
  • Develops and manages the Labor Relations compliance/policy training for all people leaders and provides oversight of the Risk Assessment process.
  • Partner with the Strategy and Analytics Lead to identify and analyze metrics to build business cases and provide supporting evidence of positive results and organizational strategy alignment.

Requirements:
Education: bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field, or advanced degree in a related field. Equivalent work experience to be considered in lieu of higher education.
Experience: 6+ years relevant work experience working closely on employee relations and union-related matters (or work councils) while leading strategic decisions on matters relevant to Labor Relations both in union and non-union work settings and understanding of federal, state, and local labor and employment laws. Experience in developing positive employee relations (union-free) communication training and preparing and negotiating collective bargaining agreements, preferred.
Computer Skills: Standard computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and relevant research platforms.
Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills required. Team member must be able to adapt their communication style for all levels within the organization.
Special Skills: Significant knowledge in Labor Relations issues and ability to understand general labor implications; Strong ability to influence and build trust and relationships; Risk adverse mindset; Ability to handle sensitive matters with integrity and being able to be a self-sufficient leader and independent thinker.
Travel: 10-15 domestic trips per year.
