The position of Land Use Specialist offers an exciting career in natural resource management, with opportunities to work outdoors and learn a multitude of different and everchanging natural resource programs and disciplines. This position is personally rewarding and fulfilling in the fact that the active management of these natural resources will benefit educational programs within Montana for current and future generations of students. The successful candidate will undergo training to allow them to use professional judgment and decision making regarding multiple use natural resource management in the following fields:

  • Rangeland Management
  • Crop Management
  • Real Estate Planning and Management
  • Mineral Lease Development
  • Renewable Energy Leasing
  • Forestry

Salary: $58,136.00 yearly/ $27.95 hourly 

Located in Miles City, MT

Miles City is located in the center of Southeastern Montana at the confluence of the Yellowstone and Tongue Rivers, with the comfortable population of 8,500, creating the hub for many surrounding communities and is only a two-hour drive from Billings, Montana's largest city. The rural nature of the area lends itself to affordable housing and a small-town atmosphere that is perfect for raising a family. The community is active with events happening all throughout the year and a downtown with unique shops, restaurants, and entertainment. The area boasts abundant recreational opportunities with publicly accessible hunting, fishing and hiking throughout the area. Areas such as Fort Peck Lake, Makoshika, Medicine Rocks, Pirogue Island State Parks; The Terry Badlands, Strawberry Hill, Spotted Eagle Recreation Area and The Custer National Forest. Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor of Science Degree in a Natural Resource Management field (preferably Range Management, Natural Resource Management, Agronomy, Ag Business or Agriculture), and two years of progressively responsible administrative and professional experience, of which involve similar program experience.

SPECIAL INFORMATION: 

Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.                                 

ELIGIBILITY TO WORK: 

In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the person selected must produce within three days of hire documents that show authorization to work in the United States. Examples of such documentation include a birth certificate or Social Security card along with a driver's license or other picture I.D., or a U.S. passport, or a "green card".
