East Bay Municipal Water District (EBMUD) invites qualified persons to apply for a temporary position (up to six months) in the Laboratory Services Division of the Wastewater Department. Under general supervision, a Laboratory Technician II performs physical, chemical, biological and bacteriological analyses of water, wastewater, industrial waste, and related materials. Typical duties may include:Performing and reviewing routine physical, chemical, biological, and microbiological analysis of water, wastewater, industrial waste, and related materials.Setting up, calibrating, operating, and performing minor maintenance on a variety of laboratory equipment and instruments of a less technical nature; performing calculations, completing forms, and maintaining records.Recognizing problems which occur in an analytical procedure; applying known procedures or conferring with others to find solutions; recommending changes to known procedures or conferring with others to find solutions; recommending changes to procedures and forms.Performing various sample preparation processes involving manual and automated extraction of digestion of soil, water, wastewater, and industrial waste matrices; may collect samples and compute quantities; may prepare and preserve samples for subcontract laboratory services.Processing, logging, and preserving a variety of samples; receiving samples for analysis, logging into a laboratory information management system (LIMS) and entering field and subcontract data; assisting in planning sample collection programs; preparing samples for transport, storage, and laboratory testing.Preparing standard chemical solutions, reagents, stains, and bacteriological media; keeping laboratory facilities in a clean and orderly condition.Cleaning and preparing glassware for sample collection; sterilizing bacteriological supplies; preparing sample kits for distribution.Maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies; ordering, replacing, and maintaining inventory of chemical reagents and standards.Compiling and recording data onto worksheets; entering reviewed data and results of analyses into a LIMS.Observing standard safety precautions related to the work; maintaining proper quality assurance techniques in performing analytical work.Maintaining proper quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) records and documentation.Assisting laboratory technicians and chemists on specific analytical projects.Performing work and assignments consistent with departmental policy and procedures for ethics, data integrity, and health and safety.Utilizing automated or computer-based work management systems, or other electronic or computer systems and applications, in the course of work.Performing other related duties and responsibilities as required.EBMUD is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

5.Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
