Anticipated salary range for this position is between $19.25 - $24.00/hour, depending on experience.
Position Summary

The Laboratory Specialist I reviews and analyzes, and certifies data generated from liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) instrumentation.
This position requires a working knowledge of the liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) platform, laboratory set-up, sample preparation, validation, and technologist training, as well as familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS), quality control procedures, troubleshooting problems, documentation of actions taken to correct problems, and adhering to strict standards.
Essential Functions & Basic Duties
  1. Reviewing and completing routine and non-routine data verification before reporting.
  2. Recognizing unusual and unacceptable specimens and handling appropriately.
  3. Verification of QC data.
  4. Prioritizing work to meet deadlines with direction from supervisor.
  5. Interaction with administrative and laboratory staff.
  6. Participating in the instruction and training of others.
  7. Maintaining patient confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.
  8. Performing other laboratory functions such as maintain laboratory records, quality control charts, maintenance logs and various logs as needed.
  9. The position also assists with other laboratory duties and responsibilities as needed.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Medical Technology or a closely related field.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years laboratory experience (LCMS) that included knowledge of LC/MS assay development, assay validation, quantitative drug analysis, and correlation studies is preferable, as well as the policies and procedures of CLIA, COLA, and other accreditation organizations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  1. Training preferred as an LC-MS technologist and as a member of a data certification team.
  2. General understanding of LC/MS instrument theory and mechanics of operation.
  3. Physical, environmental, and electrical requirements for instrument location and operation, as well as names and functions of all instrument parts.
  4. Integration of LC/MS equipment with LIMS, printers, and other devices.
  5. Sample accessioning, barcoding, and tracking practices.
  6. Sample preparation practices for LC/MS, including sample dilution, filtration, or concentration as needed.
  7. Chemicals, reagents, calibrators, standards, supplies, and disposables needed for sample processing.
  8. Proper storage of chemicals and disposal of waste chemicals.
  9. Laboratory and personnel safety when operating LC/MS equipment.
  10. Instrument calibration, review of calibration data, storage of data calibration, and procedures for resolving failed calibrations.
  11. Handling, reviewing, and clearing pending logs.
  12. Liaising LC/MS technical service to resolve problems.
  13. Completion of written competency tests.
  14. Daily, Weekly, Monthly maintenance procedures.
  15. Using instrument error codes to resolve problems.
  16. Signing for and receiving shipments, supplies, samples, etc., as needed.

Other
Work is normally performed Monday through Friday during normal business hours, however, may require overtime.
