JOB SUMMARY: Performs tests and analyzes body fluids and tissue or prepares blood components/products to provide high quality, comprehensive medical laboratory results in compliance with section policies and procedures. Performs appropriate patient procedures in accordance with age-specific guidelines for the age groups served.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent with clinical laboratory experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assures accurate and timely performance of specimen processing and QA procedures according to departmental policy.
- Assures completeness and accuracy of registration data.
- Follows proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance or environment.
- Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.
- Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
- Protects self, coworkers, and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.
- Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals, and standards of laboratory testing.
