Kettering Engineering Co-op

Kettering University - Engineering Students

Location: Golden (Denver), Colorado

This is an opportunity to work for a world class global leader in ceramic part and component engineering. Students will gain a deep understanding of CoorsTek's manufacturing processes through rotations in our Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, Planning, Quality, and Supple Chain groups. Completing hands on projects to solve actual CoorsTek challenges will bring learning to life and reinforce academic progress. On-the-job evaluations and ongoing feedback are provided by supervisors ensuring strong learning and professional development. The end of each term culminates in the presentation of a capstone project to CoorsTek leaders providing evidence of accomplishments.

Semester 1 Section A

Week 1 - Introduction to CoorsTek through The CoorsTek Academy

• Presentations and Group Discussions: Leaders from various domains across the company share an Introduction to CoorsTek, The CoorsTek Way (values), CoorsTek Operations Roadmap to Excellence (CORE), Lean Principles, Product Overview, Trade Compliance, Safety Culture and Standards, Quality, and Employee Benefits.

• Hands on Simulations: Technical Trainers and Engineers guide Academy Attendees through Handling Ceramic Parts, Transacting Parts (Computer Systems), Basic Blueprints, GD&T, and Inspection Processes.

• Individual Trainings: Academy Attendees complete individual trainings including compliance related items through Workday Learning.

• Facility Tours: Academy Attendees tour several of CoorsTek's manufacturing facilities across Golden which cover multiple machining processes and sell into a variety of key markets.

Week 2 - Job shadowing

• Students are paired with CoorsTek leaders and employees across the various domains of focus to observe them in action and build a foundation of understanding to work alongside those teams and contribute to accomplishing project work.

Week 3 - Introduction to CoorsTek Systems and Tools

• Understanding Multi Site Manufacturing and The Model Plant.

• Deeper dive into CORE program and operational metrics related to the Golden manufacturing plants.

• CoorsTek systems training including Workday, QAD, AIC, Kronos, Apriso, Enovia, Tracker, Concur and others.

Week 4 - Supervisor Foundations

• Leading At CoorsTek - Leading with Values, in alignment with company culture and the strategic intent.

• Manufacturing Toolbox (Leading the Work) - Leading in a manufacturing environment with strong communication, KPIs, and problem-solving skills.

• Think Like a Leader (Leading a Team) - Understand your leadership style and tools to lead teams effectively.

• Creating a Powerful Employee Experience - Understand the leaders' role in creating a powerful employee experience including building belonging, compensation, performance and career development.

Week 5 - 11 - Project Work

• Introduction to support teams for operations. (HR, EHS, Quality, Engineering, Sales, Planning, etc.).

• Ceramics 101: Forming, Firing, Machining, Finishing, Metallizing, Final Inspection, Shipping.

• Review KPI's and understand impacts for each metric.

• 360 Job Shadowing.

• Intro to Lean manufacturing, Intro to lean tools.

• Intro to process improvement / efficiency.

• Project - How to identify unnecessary scrap and how to identify inefficiencies.

• Project - Understand manufacturing processes to help implement solutions.

• Project - How to Document/Record process changes (ECR/ECO/ECPB).
