Job description

The Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) supports the business operations of state agencies through a variety of services, including building management and maintenance, information technology, centralized contracting and procurement, budget and financial management, space planning and leasing, construction management, motor vehicle fleet operations, and oversight of the state retirement systems.

We are looking for a person who understands the value of public service and wants to help us meet the needs of our citizens. Above all, we are looking for someone that is passionate about IT database administration and support of database users. This person needs to be an excellent communicator, meaning you can effectively make oral and written reports, presentations and prepare clear and concise documentation. You need to be capable of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with clients and matrix support teams. We need someone who can resolve complex problems in a timely manner and seeks optimum solutions.

As a Database Administrator, this team member is responsible for database structure and design, implementing and maintaining the database environment, and ensuring compliance with security and integrity needs across the database environment. The employee is responsible for understanding data architecture and design, install, configure, and upgrade database software, maintain and implement security practices that would include reviewing tenable scans and implementing current patches and security updates. The employee will also be responsible for database backups and restorations, performance optimization/tuning and provide support to incident responses. The employee plays a key role in database administration and support, ensuring that database performance and minimize database downtime are tracked closely and that the database access and security controls are kept up to date with the current policies, procedures, and standards. The goal is to install and maintain the performance of database servers and develop processes for optimizing database security.

SIGNING BONUS:
This position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $2,500. Up to $1,250 to be paid upon new hire and the remainder to be paid after satisfactory completion of the initial probationary period (12-month period). This does not apply to current state employees.

Michigan State Police Background Check Required:

Candidates selected for this position must complete the Michigan State Police background check. This extensive background check requires fingerprinting for state and federal criminal background records. The background check search will include, but is not limited to, arrests, criminal charges, criminal convictions, and any information regarding contact with a criminal justice agency.



Education
Information Technology Programmer/Analyst P11/12
Possession of a Bachelor's degree with 21 semester (32 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: computer science, data processing, computer information systems, data communications, networking, systems analysis, computer programming, information assurance, IT project management or mathematics.

Experience
Information Technology Programmer/Analyst 12
Two years of professional experience equivalent to an Information Technology Infrastructure or Programmer/Analyst P11.

Information Technology Programmer/Analyst P11 - 12
Possession of an associate's degree with 16 semester (24 term) credits in computer science, information assurance, data processing, computer information, data communications, networking, systems analysis, computer programming, IT project management, or mathematics and two years of experience as an application programmer, computer operator, or information technology technician; or two years (4,160 hours) of experience as an Information Technology Student Assistant may be substituted for the education requirement.

OR

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and four years of experience as an application programmer, computer operator, information technology technician, or four years (8,320 hours) of experience as an Information Technology Student Assistant may be substituted for the education requirement.
