Overview
Ascend Performance Materials is looking for an IT Security Specialist who will be supporting the IT Security Team with their ongoing efforts on ensuring the integrity of Ascend Performance Materials’ IT Systems including but not limited to Core Applications such as SAP, File Server Security, Client Device Security, WAN and LAN Security. This is an entry-level security position that will provide the data analysis, security operations tasks, information reporting, incident response, and information security process support that is required to run Ascends’ Information Security program. This position is hands-on and technical in nature. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the application of security technology, in depth analysis, and getting the job done. The position requires the individual to possess skills related to the monitoring, reporting, and auditing of security events and applications. Additionally, this individual will audit IT systems, report findings to leadership and work with IT to ensure compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with key stakeholders to put together an enterprise wide risk management framework
  • Provide first/second-level help desk ticket management, troubleshooting, resolution and technical support for security services - including, anti-spam, anti-virus, web proxies, phishing attempts, data loss prevention, network security alerts etc.
  • Respond to and, where appropriate, resolve or escalate reported security incidents.
  • Investigate and resolve security violations by providing postmortem analysis to illuminate the issues and possible solutions.
  • Monitor system logs, SIEM tools and network traffic for unusual or suspicious activity. Interpret such activity and make recommendations for resolution.
  • Collate security incident and event data to produce monthly exception and management reports.
  • Work with the Infrastructure Team to ensure the integrity of the Windows based systems
  • Work with the Network Team to ensure the integrity of the WAN, LAN, telephony systems and OT network
  • Continuous update of Ascends incident response and disaster recovery plans
  • Perform security analysis of daily security reports and data, utilizing standard tools and methodologies. Reliably follow complex procedures and be able to discern what data is important when presented with large amounts of data. Escalate security events to appropriate team members as necessary.
  • Proactively recognizes problems by identifying abnormalities and vulnerabilities
  • Research threats and vulnerabilities and, where appropriate, take action to mitigate threats and remediate vulnerabilities.
  • Review, assess, and mitigate penetration tests and vulnerability assessments on information systems and infrastructure.
  • Recommend, schedule and/or apply fixes, security patches and any other measures required in the event of a security breach.
  • Monitor security vulnerability information from vendors and third parties.
  • Ensure policies and procedures put in place are adhered to and take corrective action where non-conformities are identified.
  • Support ongoing projects by assisting in all phases of an implementation (Installing/testing/documenting (Technical and Non-Technical documentation) as required.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for security systems and procedures
  • Provide support as required to requests for information from the annual IT Audit
  • Perform administrative tasks and other duties as assigned to support projects and ongoing operations.
  • Manage Incident and Change Request service levels according to IT guidelines
  • Participate in an on-call rotation
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Challenges:
  • The integrity of the IT systems is key to ensuring the success of Ascend Performance Materials’ business activities however; this must be balanced with the requirements of the users to access information quickly and easily. It is an easy task to make systems secure but not make them so secure that it impacts the user’s ability to perform their job function. A successful balance between these goals is the key to success in this role
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of IT Security experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or certifications in IT/IT Security or related field preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to perform complex system analysis and draw conclusions by relating information from different sources, including root-cause analysis and issue resolution
  • Highly self-motivated, driven work ethic, keen attention to detail and exceptional customer service orientation
  • Ability to communicate highly technical information in an understandable manner to non-technical audiences through writing and presentations
  • Must have experience juggling multiple projects in fast pace, ever changing environment while meeting project objectives in a timely manner using standard project management methodologies
  • Strong communications skills and the ability to conduct presentations in-person and via web-based meetings
  • Committed to continuously learning and developing new IT Security skills and technologies
  • Excellent problem solving skills: both at the frontline and incident to problem management
  • Ability to travel to Ascend site as needed (up to 10%)
