The Irrigation Technician maintains, repairs, inspects, and installs irrigation/drainage systems at BREC parks, athletic fields, and facilities, operating equipment and tools, performing maintenance and repair work.Education Required: H.S. diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Vo-tech school diploma or associate's degree.
Area of Study (major) Preferred: Irrigation, Plumbing, Agronomy, Sports Turf Management, Landscape Management, or related.
Certification(s) Required: Irrigation Technician Certification.
License(s) Required: Valid LA Class E driver's license. Preferred: Valid LA Class A, B, or D Commercial driver's license.
Years Relevant Work Experience: 3 years' experience in related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Preferred: 5 or more years related experience, at least 3 years full-time, Golf Course Irrigation, Sports Turf Irrigation, or at BREC;
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of irrigation & plumbing systems
- Knowledge of drainage design and level/transit experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of electronics & computers
- Skill in the operation of light to heavy maintenance equipment
- Skill in the operation of electronic instruments, irrigation computers and pump stations systems
- Mechanical aptitude and excellent driving record required
- Good interpersonal & organizational skills with ability to prioritize and inspect work
- Ability to troubleshoot & make repairs using independent judgment
- Ability to read and write the English Language and articulate moderately complex instructions
- Must have a positive attitude with the willingness and desire to learn new skills
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
- Ability to operate a BREC vehicle and equipment to perform the essential functions of the job
- Ability to adjust to changing work demands, procedures, technology, and/or priorities
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public
- Repairs, inspects, and maintains all BREC's various irrigation systems and pump stations.
- Troubleshoots and repairs electronics and irrigation/office computer systems associated with irrigation systems.
- Performs other irrigation, drainage, and plumbing related duties around BREC parks, athletic fields, and facilities.
- Installs new irrigation systems as assigned.
- Makes daily supply and material purchases according to BREC Purchasing procedures.
- May perform other maintenance and construction related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

As assigned, within general framework of 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, weekend/holiday work as scheduled or needed. On call after-hours in case of emergencies.
