The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for International Student & Scholar Advisor, UNLV International Students and Scholars - Student Compliance [R0135663]

ROLE of the POSITION

The Office of International Students and Scholars is excited to invite applicants for the role of International Student & Scholar Advisor. The International Student & Scholar Advisor ("Advisor") focuses on assisting and advising new and continuing international students with legal eligibility and personal and academic issues so that students can meet academic and professional goals at UNLV. The Advisor also processes and tracks necessary documentation for students and updates SEVIS data regularly to meet compliance requirements and deadlines. The Advisor is responsible for disseminating information pertaining to immigration and international students throughout the campus community. The Advisor role includes involvement in organizations and activities that promote inclusion and global diversification. Advisor duties include:
  • Manage UNLV's SEVIS compliance as DSO, ensuring all documentation is in order when students arrive for their first semester and while continuing their education and during CPT and OPT/OPT STEM authorizations.
  • As required, run training sessions and tutorials for students and faculty for the various SEVIS compliance requirements.
  • Work with GEI student services and UNLV student support agencies to provide student assistance as needed.
  • Brief Associate Director of F-1 Advising on weekly operations and student challenges.
  • Collaborate with other UNLV DSOs to ensure consistent policies and procedures.
  • Follow all FERPA regulations while handling a high volume of incoming and outbound calls and emails.
  • As needed, organize and participate in all OISS sponsored student events in order to cultivate belonging.
  • Assist with monitoring TERRA DOTTA database for data errors such as incorrect major, class standing, academic standing, and GPA.
  • Provide resources for international student support and engage in student care duties as delegated by the Director.
  • Assist the Associate Director of F-1 Advising in training the international student workers in the OISS Ambassador program with a focus on OISS customer service operations.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 1-2 years professional experience. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree
  • One year+ related experience working with international students or international context
  • One year experience serving as a Designated School Official (DSO)
  • F-1 Advising experience
  • Experience working with the SEVIS system
  • Experience with PeopleSoft or other student information management systems

  • Knowledge of Federal and institutional regulations pertaining to international students
  • Knowledge of Department of Homeland Security / Student and Exchange Visitor Program - CFR 214F Regulations pertaining to F-1 international students
  • Knowledge of Department of State - knowledge of visa issuance procedures
  • Presentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Experience in and appreciation for cross-training environment
  • Ability to imagine and develop improvements that others cannot see at first.
