JOB SUMMARY:
The Software/Electrical Engineer initiates and develops designs, procedures and techniques involving moderately complex mechatronic subsystems and/or subassemblies; conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs; supports the conduct of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication activities; and, oversees the accuracy and maintenance of design data. Assignments are outlined in terms of functional and performance specifications, objectives, expected results and critical reference points requiring special attention. The Design Engineer is an independent producer, serving as a reliable resource of engineering knowledge and support, applying the latest technological advancements to the job as appropriate.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the development of software; sensing and instrumentation; industrial control; and, power distribution and control systems for the integrated control of various 3D printer mechatronic subsystems including: control of laser scanners and focusing elements; control of powder deposition and recoating elements; control of motors, pumps, heaters, interlocks; graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and other man-machine interfaces; etc.
Responsible for the development of software; sensing and instrumentation; and, industrial control systems design including: requirements and functional analysis and allocation, integrated software, power and controls synthesis, modeling simulation and trade studies.
Responsible for the assembly, checkout and verification & validation (V&V) of software; sensing and instrumentation; and, industrial control systems including: system assembly procedure, checkout and operating procedures; system assembly and checkout; and, V&V test planning, design, build and execution.
Qualifications:
10 years or more of relevant complex systems software and Electrical Engineering experience.
BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline plus 5 years or more relevant experience required.
MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline plus 3 years or more relevant experience preferred.
2-3 years' experience with 3D metal printing and additive manufacturing preferred.
DoD Active Security Clearance preferred.
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills; public speaking skills; and, ability to work well within high performing teams.
This position may require up to 25% travel.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Technical
Design and development of software for real-time, embedded systems utilizing modern software development, verification and validation techniques including: software requirements analysis and allocation; high-level software design; low-level software design; software quality assurance, configuration management and defect tracking; cybersecurity; etc. Expert level programming in C and C . Proficient in ADA, JAVA, Structured Query Language (SQL), Python, MATLAB/Simulink, Object Oriented Design, GUI Development, UNIX, MS Windows, Networking Protocols (i.e., Novell, TCP/IP) and print languages (i.e., Postscript and PCL).
Design and implementation of high accuracy thermal and visual process monitoring systems employing commercially available sensing and processing technologies.
Design and implementation of moderately complex mechatronic subsystems and subassemblies employing commercially available industrial programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, actuators and programming environments.
Demonstrated ability to develop design solutions employing structured systems engineering best practices and/or processes in accordance with relevant standards including ANSI-EIA-632, IEEE Std 1220; ISO/IEC 15288; NASA Systems Engineering Handbook or similar.
Test & EVALUATION
Execution of complex system and subsystem level testing in accordance with authorized test plans and procedures.

Salary Range: $93,700 - $112,400 annually (starting salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the candidate, and alignment with market data).
In addition to a salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based upon company performance.
