Responsibilities
This position is responsible for writing and editing news and feature stories, coordinating social media activities and website updates, photography at events, market research, organizing content and digital archives, and other marketing and administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma/equivalency and one year of experience.
Excellent writing and editing skills
Ability to effectively communicate in writing with attention to detail.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines while working in a fast-paced environment and maintaining a high quality of work.
Social media and web management skills.
Experience with Facebook, Twitter (X), Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. We use WordPress to manage our website content.
Ability to create and schedule posts, engage with our followers, run monthly reports, and edit our website.
Proficient with common office software and ability to learn quickly.
Experience Microsoft Teams daily and work with documents using Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Basic photography and photo editing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of news writing; however, our College's style of writing can be learned on the job as long as you already have advanced writing skills.
Candidates with photography skills are preferred, but all employees receive on-the-job training.
Experience with Canvas and Adobe products is preferred but not required. All employees receive on-the-job training.
Experience using each social media platform for an organization is preferred; however, all employees receive on-the-job training.
Other Information
The College of Social Sciences and Public Policy seeks a Communications Assistant with excellent writing and editing skills to serve as a member of the College's Communications Team, enhancing overall communications from the College to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members.
This position reports to the Director of Communications and assists with social media engagement, promoting events and opportunities at FSU and beyond, and producing visual content by providing graphic design and event photography services.
Willing to create a personal LinkedIn and Facebook account to be able to manage the accounts.

Anticipated Salary Range
The position will pay $12-15/hour commensurate with experience
If desired, you may also earn academic credit toward your degree or complete FSU Career Center's Experience Recognition Program for a transcript notation.
Considerations
This is an OPS/temporary job.
Based on the duties, this position may require completion of a criminal history background check .
You must be able to commit to 10-15 hours/week on a set weekly schedule with the ability to attend events that may occur outside of the Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. work week.
