We are looking for a new colleague to join our team in Washington Twp, MI!

Position Summary: The Sewing Machine Operator is responsible for operating and tending to industrial machines. Responsible for sewing a quality product utilizing various machines to meet customer specific criteria in accordance with customer build forecasts and shipment schedules. Responsible for adherence to all quality systems (job instructions) and production requirements (productivity and scrap). Must be able to meet the daily productivity goals per area assigned (efficiency and scrap rates). Must be able to cross-train on all stations and in multiple areas (as assigned) and meet the requirements of that station. Must be able to maintain equipment and maintain work area to 5S standards.

Responsibilities:

• Pre-inspect each piece of the build for defects prior to sewing.
• Ability to sew a wide range of textiles at required productivity rates.
• Ability to thread, tension, and adjust stitch length. Effectively operate various sewing machines (brands and styles) and be able to conduct routine (basic) sewing machine maintenance such as: Thread, Needle, Blade, & Bobbin changes, cleaning of thread or textile remnants from casings, oiling of machine, etc.
• Ensure that each part passed meets the customers' quality expectations.
• Knowledgeable of all defect types that are beyond customer and internal boundaries thus ensuring each part produced meets acceptable quality standards before leaving the workstation.
• Move material around the plant from station to station and place in the properly identified location.
• Complete necessary paperwork and/or scanning that is required per station.
• Observe operations to detect any faults or defects in stitching.
• Ensure that the finished product conforms to the design and instructions provided in the work order.

Essential Skills and Experience:

• High School diploma.
• 2+ years of sewing experience.
• Must have good mechanical ability, be familiar with the use of hand tools and assembly equipment and be able to read prints and follow control plans developed for each product type.
• Must be able to quickly become familiar with the use of various computer applications.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• 2-year Associates or Specialized Technical Degree or equivalent related experience.
• Experience in the cutting and sewing of airbags and assembly of airbag modules and the use of machine tools.
• Experience with sewing machine repair.
• Experience with laser cutting of fabric.
