From insight to commercial launch, this role will gain exposure and experience identifying, creating and refining new product development concepts for our innovation pipeline.
Position Summary
As a member of our small and fast-paced Strategic Innovation team, you'll collaborate with team members from design, product management, engineering, and business insights to help us create better products for the future. You will enjoy this role if you love conducting customer research, creating quick ideations sketches and prototypes for internal development, and then delivering inspiring concepts for customer testing. The work carried out by the Industrial Design Intern varies and may include some of the following:
- Using design thinking research methods to observe and understand how products are used.
- Identifying insights and areas of opportunity our team can use to create innovative and meaningful products.
- Ability to quickly sketch for ideation, form, communication, and mechanical development.
- Ability to create prototypes and appearance models by hand and 3D printing.
- Ability to evaluate design ideas based on factors such as appearance, ergonomics, design-function relationships, and materials to determine if a design meets consumer/customer specifications.
- Ability to communicate and demonstrate wide-ranging concept exploration, innovative solutions, a clear process, and visually appealing presentations.
- A "no task is too small" attitude in working in and around Industrial Designers, engineers, business insights, and model-makers.
- Ability to think quickly and problem-solve on the spot with a maturity that maintains a positive team environment.
Qualifications
- In the process of pursuing a Master's or Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) in Industrial Design. A student or professional portfolio required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- 3D modeling skills - Solid Edge, SolidWorks, or Rhino (surfacing, assemblies, and 2D drafting).
- Rendering skills - Keyshot preferred. 3DS Max or V-Ray nice to have.
- Proficient in Sketchbook Pro, Adobe Creative Suite - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
- Excel for data and dimensional analysis.
