TITLE: INDUSTRIAL ARTS TEACHER

REPORTS TO: BUILDING ADMINISTRATOR
JOB GOAL: To develop in each student an introduction to a variety of skills related to materials and processes. Such as, basic concepts in circuitry, engine components, hand tools, computer-aided design, and manufacturing, while learning to use digital fabrication tools such as 3D printers. Students will also develop project management skills.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaches skills and knowledge in one or more courses in construction, carpentry, woodworking, circuitry, manufacturing, basic auto mechanics, digital fabrication, or general shop to middle school students.
2. Develops lesson plans and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, shop work, and material organization that maximizes hands-on, real-world experiences.
3. Demonstrates industrial material, equipment, tools and processes, using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aids.
4. Guides students in selection and development of appropriate elective projects.
6. Instructs students in use of eye protection and safety guards, and in the use, care, organization, and safe operation of tools, machines, and equipment.
7. Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to tools and equipment as required.
8. Establishes and maintains standards of students' conduct needed to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in an activity-type classroom with many potential hazards.
9. Keeps informed of the industrial community's job entry requirements and instructs students in the fundamentals of getting and retaining these jobs.
10. Evaluates each student's performance, knowledge, and skills.
11. Selects and requisitions instructional aids and equipment; maintains required inventory records; makes purchases as authorized.
12. Maintains professional competence through professional learning.
13. Identifies student needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
14. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
15. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
17. Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and length of contract to be established
by the board of education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with
provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of professional
personnel.
