Fulltime w/Benefits (medical/dental insurance, flex benefits, vacation & sick leave, paid holidays, and retirement) Applicant must have an Associate's Degree, or Paraprofessional Certification*.
*If you do not have an Associate's Degree or Paraprofessional Certification, inquire at the School District Administration Office about taking the Paraprofessional Certification Test.

CLASSIFIED POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: In-School Suspension Monitor, Paraprofessional (Behavior Intervention)
FACILITY: Hardin Middle School
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Assistant Principal
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The person in this position will supervise and monitor students assigned to the In-School Suspension Program and also help to monitor and assist students in the behavioral intervention program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide supervision for students who are assigned to the In-School Suspension (ISS) classroom
Take daily attendance
Review in-school suspension policies, procedures and student expectations with students daily
Assist students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up learning activities
Assist in presentation of learning materials, instructional exercises, and testing in compliance with the student's IEP
Monitor and assist students through drill, practice, and study activities following presentation of instructional concepts
Assist in supervision of students in the classroom, on study trip activities, in common areas, and in bus duty as directed
Listen to students read, read to students, explain words and meanings, rephrase materials, and provide similar learning examples
Assist students, if needed, with personal hygiene
Perform general clerical duties for instructional personnel
Assist in management and shaping of student behavior through use of positive reinforcement strategies
Assist in maintaining student discipline
Assist in maintaining neat, orderly, and effective learning environment, including designing and displaying bulletin boards (if applicable)
Assist in maintaining a variety of reports and records
Work with students and or other staff members during student reflection period on issues such as behavior management and the prevention of undesirable behaviors that resulted in student being assigned to ISS
Monitor all ISS assignments; provide encouragement and feedback to students, monitor tests, computer work and provide instructional assistance as appropriate
Ensure students have security escorts to lavatory facilities
Email teachers 24 hours in advance for work requests and complete student Work Completion Logs for all students assigned to the room
Facilitate and arrange delivery of student lunches when necessary
Refer behavior problems to the Assistant Principal
Transport students to alternate educational facility when necessary

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION / EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma, GED or equivalent
Associates Degree or Paraprofessional Certification
Any combination of additional training and / or experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities
Experience working with students and knowledge of conflict resolution techniques is strongly encouraged
Current Driver License, insurable driver.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
Must have strong interpersonal skills and patience
Must be able to handle and respond to potential volatile situations and take appropriate action
Knowledge of general concepts of child growth, development, and behavior characteristics
Knowledge of public education goals and objectives
Knowledge of arithmetic concepts, English, and language arts
Ability to interpret and establish appropriate rules, methods and techniques in maintaining a disciplined academic environment
Ability to demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm, and receptive attitude toward children
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, building staff and school community
Ability to work effectively without close supervision
Ability to effectively use technology in the instructional/learning process
Ability to read and interpret documents
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities
Ability to operate and drive a vehicle, have a current driver's license
Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student matters
Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all District requirements and Board policies

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, occasionally walk and stand. The employee must be able to lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Community:
Big Horn County, Montana is rich in history, culture and time-honored traditions. It Includes the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Reservations. Hardin (county seat) is situated on the banks of the Bighorn River and the edge of the Crow Reservation. The town is surrounded by productive farms and ranches. Coal mining has also contributed greatly to the local economy. Hardin, is located 46 miles southeast of Billings (largest city in the State) by way of Interstate 90. The Big Horn County Museum, Little Big Horn Battlefield and Chief Plenty Coups State Park provide interesting and important history of the area. The scenic Big Horn, Pryor and Wolf Mountain ranges are part of the Big Horn County landscape. Yellowtail Dam offers a majestic view of the water below. The spectacular Big Horn Canyon National Recreation Area is host to water sports. This area of Big Sky Country also offers fishing, hunting, hiking, snowmobiling, camping, etc. for the outdoor enthusiast. Annual events in Big Horn County include: Little Big Horn Days, Native Days, PRCA Rodeo & Crow Fair.
