Job Description:

Hot Section Engineering (HSE) is seeking a Senior Principal Structures Engineer (P5) to join the Advanced Engine Programs-Exhaust (AEP-E) Structures team. This role offers opportunities to become a future leader, with visibility throughout the leadership chain, from CIPT (Component Integrated Product Team), to PCE (Program Chief Engineer), and to external customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Complement classic hand calculations with state-of-the-art finite element analysis for stress, vibration, determination of low cycle fatigue life and residual life (fracture mechanics) prediction.
  • Participate as an active member in cross-discipline integrated product teams to provide design solutions that balance performance, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Develop and progress new technologies as an individual and as a team contributor, with applications on advanced exhaust programs.
  • Write clear substantiation documentation, as well, create and provide impactful, persuasive technical presentations to internal and external customers.
  • Manage and communicate risk to internal and external customers appropriately.
  • Embrace a continuous improvement philosophy and help drive improvements to the benefit of the organization.


OTHER MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES OR TASKS:
  • Collaborate and instill trust with peers, as well as internal and external customers.
  • Mentor and assist on the technical development of teammates.
  • Assist supervisor with resource planning utilizing task-tailoring approach.
  • Define and lead work activity with Applied Mechanics Laboratory and RTRC where appropriate.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives using CORE methods and tools.


Basic Qualifications:
  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 10+ years of engineering experience or 7+ years with an advance degree
  • US Citizen due to government contract
  • Active US Government Security Clearance required, or ability to obtain and maintain clearance.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced proficiency in structural finite element methods and programs.
  • Experience with software and programing languages. APDL, Workbench, ABAQUS, MATLAB, HyperMesh, VBA, Python, C++, Fortran, MS Office, NX Teamcenter, and SAP.
  • Familiar with Agile and/or Scrum project management methodologies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization at P&W and to customers.
  • Self-motivated, with focus on results and the ability to drive tasks to completion.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively in fast-paced, team environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude to understand the interactions of complex assemblies and how to translate into sound analytical assumptions.
