Job Description

Summary/Primary Purpose: Provide support to the Emergency Shelter Director by providing supervision and intake of clients, maintaining security, and providing supportive services in a Christian atmosphere.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Conduct intake interview of incoming residents into the shelter.
2. Assign a proper room; distribute needed bedding and personal care items.
3. Provide necessary supervision of shelter and residents, assuring that rules and policies are being followed.
4. Maintain an awareness of client needs and follow up as needed.
5. Answer phone calls and take messages when appropriate.
6. General cleaning as necessary.
7. Administer breathalyzer and/or drug tests as needed.
8. Review staff change over and update as needed.
9. Do room inspections and enforce cleaning rules for areas.
10. Be responsible for over-all cleanliness of the shelter areas.
11. Provide seasonal assistance as needed.
12. Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent required, and a minimum of 1-year experience

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

1. Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
2. Basic skills in Microsoft software to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. As
3. well as the ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
4. Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing.
5. Good communication skills both written and spoken in English, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
6. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.

Additional Information

** THIS POSITION IS 12AM - 8AM**

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Employee may often be required to engage in rigorous activities. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying objects up to 10 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions: The work environment is a business office setting with office equipment, light traffic and moderate noise levels.
