Hospital Services Liaison I

POSITION SUMMARY

The Hospital Services Liaison supports the mission, goals, and strategic plan of the Nevada Donor Network, Inc. (NDN) by supporting the development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of educational and development strategies designed to increase organ and tissue donation. The Hospital Services Liaison participates in potential donor referral management together with Organ and Family Services staff.

Schedule: Saturday - Wednesday

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions Statement(s):

  • Policies and Procedures
    • Follows Policies and Procedures to ensure compliance with rules and regulations from governing and regulatory agencies
    • Participates with hospital services responsibilities for Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) inspections and accreditation
    • Participates in departmental fiduciary responsibilities
    • Participates in planning and implementing a strategic plan for hospital services
    • Participates in the development of hospital policies and procedures to ensure compliance with rules and regulations from governing and regulatory agencies
  • Establishes and maintains a positive effective working relationship with:
    • Internal clients, including department management, the NDN management team and staff in other departments
    • Hospital staff at hospitals in the NDN Donation Service Area (DSA) including senior leadership
    • Key physicians and surgeons
    • Transplant center and laboratory personnel
    • Other key personnel throughout the community
  • Hospital Services duties
    • Serves as liaison between NDN and hospitals
    • Conducts routine visits to hospitals, and develops solid relationships with hospital personnel as established on current standards of practice
    • Ensures needs assessments are conducted at NDN DSA hospitals
    • Develops and implements written plans based on the results of the assessments. Ensures that plans are shared with and approved by key hospital staff in a timely manner
    • Generates and evaluates statistics and reports as established by current standards of practice to assess needs and inform appropriate hospital personnel when a hospital is not in compliance with organ donation laws and regulations and or does not meet standards
    • Ensures the development and maintenance of tracking tools to monitor hospital profiles which include key contacts and information
    • Ensures timely completion of goals monthly including but not limited to keeping all database and reporting systems are kept up-to-date
    • Responds to real-time case activity according as established on current standards of practice
    • Participates in TOAST call as established by current standards of practice
    • Addresses any issues identified on cases
    • Participates in referral management together with Organ and Family Services staff as assigned
    • Provides on-site support during referrals and donor cases as assigned; keep key donation champions notified of progress on case
    • Assists with cases pending authorization, during donor management, prior to and after recovery
    • Communicates effectively with Administrators on Call (AOCs) and provides updates while onsite
    • Completes real-time iTransplant documentation and all other required documentation in a timely manner
    • Conducts hospital surveys and post-donor surveys to obtain feedback from hospital staff and provide survey results to hospital staff
    • Conducts on-site after-action reviews (debriefing) with hospital personnel after donor cases as established on current standards of practice and deliver outcome letters
    • Plans, develops, creates and implements education programs and process improvements for hospital staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure hospital compliance with donation regulations including: communication, education, PowerPoint presentations, brochures, libraries and other tools. These other tools include: hospital programs and events, new nurse orientations and continuing education programs for all non-organ producing hospitals
    • Represents NDN at public events that require a speaker/guest with clinical knowledge, as requested
    • Participates in NDN committees, special functions, and community events, as needed
    • Participates in external organizations such as The Organization for Transplant Professionals (NATCO), CMS, United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), and AOPO as assigned
    • Promotes team unity and leadership by example, serves as mentor to new staff and performs additional duties and projects as assigned by the department manager and/or director
    • Performs other duties as assigned

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or university) in marketing, public relations or field of science, or similar area of study.

Experience: Hospital Development/Hospital Services experience preferred.

Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office programs Experience with website development and management, including Word Press, preferred.
