Job description

Family Life Academy Charter School (commonly called FLACS) is a nonprofit network of high-performing schools in the South Bronx. As stated in our mission statement, our schools "create an orderly, nurturing and dynamic environment where learning is engaging, meaningful, and often joyful. All members of the school community (students, parents, and teachers) will develop the knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm to continue learning throughout their lives, expand their understanding of what is possible for themselves and their world, and lead productive and satisfying lives." We are guided by this mission and through it, we have revolutionized education for students from k-12. We are currently seeking dynamic individuals to join our teaching staff.

Responsibilities

1. Implement units based on the NYS Next Generation Standards in Algebra, Geometry, and/or Calculus.

2. Create academically rigorous and culturally relevant lesson plans, materials, and assessment that prepares students for the NYS Regents examinations, Advanced Placement, and collegiate level coursework.

3. Teach engaging lessons that are differentiated to meet students' needs and use various teaching strategies which include the integration of technology into the classroom.

4. Teach both independently and collaboratively with other teachers.

5. Use targeted intervention strategies in small groups and whole-class instruction.

6. Develop and administer formative and summative assessments and analyze and use assessment data to refine instructional practices to close the achievement gap for all students.

7. Monitor student behavior and academic progress and report student progress to parents using online resources, report cards, and progress reports.

8. Reflect on lessons, student data, and current educational trends to improve practice and student outcomes.

9. Participate in ongoing professional learning, mentorship, coaching, and staff development and share best practices with colleagues and other members of the staff.

10. Foster the school's culture of family, inclusion, and a love of learning and build positive and respectful relationships with students, parents, and the school staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Prior satisfactory teaching experience preferred.
  • New York State Teaching Certification in Mathematics (grades 7-12).
  • Dual certification in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) or Students with Disabilities is a plus.
  • Clearance for fingerprint and criminal background checks.
  • Professionalism, excellent organizational skills, timeliness, and communication skills.

Salary

Compensation for this position is competitive. FLACS offers a benefits package that includes health, vision, and dental benefits.
